The Georgetown Water Utilities Department is now accepting applications for their Wastewater Collection System Operator I position.

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, maintains City sewer lines and manholes. Responds to City sewer backups and installs sewer taps for new home locations.

Operates specialized and heavy equipment and machinery. Reports to the Wastewater Collection Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions and Expectations:

Installs and maintains City sewer lines and manholes. Cleans wastewater collection system using Vactor truck.

Maintains sewer taps by tapping the mainline for a lateral service for a residence or business to gain access to City sewer lines.

Maintains sewer backups by ensuring that lines are clear for proper flow.

Performs safety inspections of equipment.

Repairs wastewater lines within the City.

Operates heavy equipment and machinery such as Vactor Truck, dump truck, bobcat, rodding machine, camera truck, etc.

Assists in operating CCTV inspections through the use of specialized equipment.

Cleans and maintains service vehicles and equipment.

Sprays and/or marks lines for wastewater collection line locations.

Performs rain detail duties as needed such as blocking roads or lanes as needed, protecting property, and allowing continued passage on US highways.

Follows all policies and procedures, laws, regulations, permits, contracts, and standards of quality and safety while performing duties.

Locates and marks sewer lines using line maps to avoid damage due to road construction or other maintenance.

Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including backup calls received, cave-ins received, manhole lid pop offs received, TV in a service line, sinkholes, service requests, and training materials.

Prepares and/or generates reports such as service call results, work orders, and inventory checklists.

Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including equipment problems, timesheets, and overtime sheets.

Attends meetings, training, etc. as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.

Interacts and communicates with various internal and external groups and individuals.

Performs sanitation duties around the department, including cutting grass.

Assists all Water Utilities Divisions as needed.

May serve on City Safety Committee.

Serves on-call 24 hours per day to ensure uninterrupted service for customers; responds to emergency situations and natural disasters and completes unscheduled work in a timely fashion.

May be required to work weekday, evening, night, or weekend shifts, and additional shifts during weather events as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. Must be able to push, lift, pull, reach, carry or otherwise move objects.

Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. May work outside in inclement weather. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 80 - 100 pounds.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of zero to one (0 - 1) years' experience in a job-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

• Valid South Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hiring.

Preferred Skills:

• Current South Carolina Class D Wastewater Collection Operator License.
