Job Summary
Ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner will maintain required safety, security and operational training, procedural and regulatory compliance, and safety, security, and quality an integral part of every task. Job is located at Los Alamos National Lab. Per Diem may be available.
Job Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts and techniques in engineering with knowledge of environmental regulations and local utility codes.
  • Collect the requirements for the system, and process design or analysis task, and then prepare design concepts that meet the requirements.
  • Develop design details, design or analysis calculations, specifications, safety documentation, etc. that incorporate the applicable design and national code requirements, including nuclear safety requirements, as applicable.
  • Promote leadership, quality, and safety values in all aspects of job duties.
  • Implement Conduct of Engineering Program.
  • Perform calculations and develop engineering calculation reports.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with DOE O/M 435.1, DOE O 460.2, 49 CFR, 40 CFR, and disposal facility WACs.
  • Identify and investigate noncompliant conditions, provide compliance direction, ensures nonconforming conditions are reviewed for technical justification, and verifies deficiencies are dispositioned in a timely manner
Job Skills & Qualifications
  • Waste Management experience and knowledge of LLW/TRU waste is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of industry and material codes and standards, e.g. ASTM, UMC, UPC Codes and Standards.
  • Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communication the project stakeholders and other customers
Education and
Experience Required:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in various Engineering or Physical Science fields (e.g. Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) (ABET accredited) and 3 years of experience and 1 year nuclear.
  • Experience with waste, processing, and permitting.

VIEW JOBS 12/7/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-03-06T00:00 Overview Sealaska Technical Services (STS) is a critical subcontractor on the N3B Los Alamos LLC team and will be providing program management and technical services in support of the ground & surface water monitoring program at the U.S. Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory. STS is a full-service engineering and environmental consulting company with a worldwide reach in the areas of environmental monitoring and remediation, national security, systems engineering, data management and analytics for both federal and commercial customers. Sealaska is an Alaska Native Corporation founded in 1972 and established by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. STS is currently seeking an experienced Field Waste Coordinator to support the management of all aspects of waste identification, collection, storage, packaging and disposal activities associated with the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role will be part of the Tech2 Solutions (Tetra Tech-Sealaska Joint Venture) Project Team for the N3B Los Alamos LLC team. The Field Waste Coordinator will prepare reports related to waste generation, characterization documentation, and work planning efforts. The Waste Coordinator will interface with internal project personnel to ensure waste characterization and disposition strategies are in place prior to waste generation. The Field Waste Coordinator will work directly with LLCC staff to review chemical hazards, characterize and determine appropriate characterization and identification of waste streams. The Field Waste Coordinator will be responsible for providing the information to be placed into the LANL's Integrated Waste Management System, ensuring waste streams are properly segregated, and track types and volumes of waste generated. Responsibilities * Develop internal waste management procedures and/or guidelines to ensure RCRA and Permit compliance. * Perform procedure reviews to ensure RCRA and Permit compliance * Perform waste site inspections/audits and assessments of operations and facilities associated with the N3B Water Program (implemented by T2S) and recommend appropriate action to ensure compliance with regulations * Provide guidance to LLCC staff regarding compliance and management of all applicable waste streams including New Mexico Special Waste, RCRA waste, Radioactive waste, TSCA waste, and others * Administer internal audits and support external regulatory audits * Provide training to LLCC staff regarding RCRA and Permit requirements * Utilize and navigate Los Alamos' Waste Compliance and Tracking System (WCATS), or equivalent * Interface, as necessary with all levels of LANL staff and managers, DOE, state and federal stakeholders and regulators * Create and approve required waste-related reports Qualifications * The selected candidate must be able to obtain a security clearance. US Citizenship is required. * 5-8 years of environmental waste management experience required * BS in an engineering or environmental science field required * Working knowledge of existing DOE waste management software application, preferably WCATS or the IWTS * Working knowledge with day-to-day support of information technology solutions for radioactive and hazardous waste management facilities, such as LANL's Transuranic Waste Facility (TWF) and the LLCC project, application of technical safety requirements (TSRs), RCRA hazardous waste permit requirements * Understand and adhere to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to the waste management of solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes * Working knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to the waste management, including EPA, DOT and DOE. Has knowledge and working experience with RCRA regulations along with experience working with hazardous and mixed waste streams * Strong communication, writing, and presenting skills including the ability to author and present technical documents, test plans, project documentation, and training to a wide variety of audiences Working Conditions and Physical Requirements (Light Work) * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
