The Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) is an AmeriCorps program that supports young adults (ages 18-25) and military veterans as they jumpstart their careers in the environmental field.

We support more than 350 AmeriCorps members and experienced staff statewide who restore critical habitat, build recreational trails, and respond to local and national disasters. All members earn a biweekly living allowance and an AmeriCorps Education Award once they successfully complete a term. For the 2023-2024 season, members will earn a living allowance of $1,406* issued twice a month ($2,812 per month, before taxes). *Members with positions based in King, Snohomish, Clark, and Kitsap counties are eligible for a location-based elevated living allowance of $1,530 issued twice a month ($3,060 per month, before taxes). Benefits for all members include health insurance, access to the Member Assistance Program (accessible and quality mental health services), and three weeks of paid, professional training.

Most of our AmeriCorps positions are 11-month field-crew positions where members serve on a crew of five, led by a WCC crew supervisor. We offer limited nine-month and three-month positions in spring and summer. Member Duties : This restoration crew serves with Pierce Conservation District to help conserve the natural resources of Pierce County. The crew meets in Puyallup, Washington.

Projects include salmon habitat restoration, planting native species and shrubs along rivers and streams, invasive species removal, erosion control projects, urban tree maintenance and more. Members will have opportunities to complete a variety of projects and network with a variety of environmental professionals. Invasive plant control may be completed with hand tools, machines, or herbicide.

Regular schedule is Monday to Thursday, 7 am-5:30 pm. Overnight travel may be required for either 4 days or 8 days in a row (known as "spike"). When serving on an 8-day spike assignment, members serve Th-Th with 6 days off before travel. Food/lodging are provided on spike assignments. Lodging may be camping, bunkhouses, or hotels.
