  • The Warranty Engineer functions with a high degree of autonomy and is responsible for minimizing warranty exposure by ensuring effective root-cause analysis regarding emerging and existing functional part warranty issues for Toyoda Gosei (TG) North America Corporation (TGNA), and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (NAMCs).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a representative of Toyoda Gosei at OEM warranty review meetings

  • Form cross-functional teams for collaborative root-cause analysis and resolution

  • Ensure timely notification to internal and external customers regarding corrective action steps planned/taken

  • Summarize and deliver meaningful data summaries from standard warranty data downloads

  • Ensure proper logging, coding, and disposition of all warranty part returns from customers

  • Maintain and expand warranty lessons-learned system

  • Perform analysis on warranty parts and data received from customers

  • Prepare warranty package submissions, and negotiate cost share rates with customers

  • Drive optimization by being actively engaged in continuous improvement efforts

  • Function in a highly collaborative environment where flexibility and teamwork is crucial to individual success

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Minimum of Associate degree is required, Bachelor degree in a technical field is preferred

  • Program management experience is preferred

  • Seven years of experience in warranty is preferred

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suites 2007 or newer is preferred

  • Experience working with or knowledge of Toyota SQIDS is preferred

  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines is required

  • Effective verbal, non-verbal, negotiation and written communication skills are required

  • Ability to sustain a high degree of professionalism in interacting with internal and external customers is required

  • Effective attention to detail, problem solving, analytical and organizational skills is required

Job IntroductionThe Adhesives Engineer is responsible for providing expertise and leadership in adhesives related activities across MEI. This includes material selection, plastic product design support, OEM specifications, validation, obtaining technical data and issues management. Needs to provide adhesives expertise to the product development groups, purchasing, program teams and the Magna manufacturing divisions. Maintain and cultivate relationships with material suppliers, OEM materials engineers and key sub-tier suppliers. This responsibility involves work with polymers, foams, composites, metals, adhesives and paint/coatings. Major Responsibilities• Leads preprogram validation book shelving of adhesive and substrate systems. \r \r * Requires in-depth knowledge of adhesives used for exterior applications, the suppliers for each material type and basic cost-performance comparisons.\r \r * Has a strong understanding of OEM specifications and approval processes for base materials, surface prep, primers and adhesives. Has to have or quickly develop a network of contacts at every OEM that Magna does significant business with. Needs to be able to access OEM specs and lists containing the approved materials/suppliers.\r \r * Supports process definition for manufacturing with a strong knowledge of adhesives processing requirements.\r \r * Leads multi-functional teams in resolving adhesives related issues. This includes basic warranty analysis to understand field issues for parts with elevated warranty levels.\r \r * Has a strong understanding of the interaction between adhesives and adhesion promoters, paint, flame treated substrates, and untreated substrates.\r \r * Support product engineers on adhesive design basics, including bond gaps, bond widths, flaming and priming constraints, etc.\r \r * Utilize expertise to find lower cost materials and/or technologies that can reduce the final piece price. Works closely with purchasing to aid their efforts and provide a united front to our suppliers.\r \r * Represent Magna with adhesives related industry groups.
