JOB SUMMARY

To assist the service operation by delivering parts and equipment, repairing tools, unloading equipment and supplies and keeping shop area clean and equipment safely secured.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains shop equipment and service tools by repairing or replacing as necessary.

Maintains shop vehicles and trailers keeping them clean and ready for use.

Monitors service tool use and check out procedures.

Monitors used oil storage and notifies Disposal Company when full.

Identifies materials needed for each job by establishing specifications and creating bill or materials and transports equipment to and from job sites.

Unloads and organizes equipment, parts, and supplies.

Performs refrigerant cylinder recovery and maintenance.

Rebuilds equipment by disassembling, cleaning, repairing or replacing parts and reassembling as needed.

Serves customers by providing miscellaneous repairs as needed.

Documents work by completing paperwork on each job.

Maintains supplies inventory by recording quantities used and determining supplies as needed.

Keeps shop area, walkways, and parking maintained and clean.

Supports Field Technicians by assisting on jobs when needed.

Performs work in a safe manner, following safety rules, and reporting any unsafe conditions

SPECIFICATIONS

Skills and Abilities Ability to use a variety of hand tools. Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications.

Ability to obtain an Iowa driver's license and operate a motor vehicle. Ability to operate a fork lift.

Educational Development

Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematic calculations, which would normally be acquired through secondary education, or through equivalent experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Etc.

EPA Approved Universal Technician Certification.

Apprentice level for HVAC and Hydronics disciplines.

Special Electricians Endorsement for connecting and disconnecting HVAC equipment.

Experience

An understanding of HVAC as would be acquired through exposure to HVAC principles. Up to two years direct experience preferred.

Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:

  • DUI in the previous 5 years

  • Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.

Physical, Mental, and Visual Effort

Continuous speaking, hearing, and visual (including close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus) effort. Frequent walking and standing, crouching, stooping, reaching and regularly lifting/moving up to 25 lbs., frequent lifting/moving up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lifting/moving up to 100 pounds.

Close mental and visual attention. Work involves some irregularities and difficulties in repetitive and varied tasks, continuous general concentration. Stress due to working with a great number of personalities, work pace and pressure will be present.

Working Conditions

A combination of inside and outside work environment, and possible extreme weather conditions. Regularing exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electric shocks and vibration.

Occasionally exposed to wet and /or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Overtime/weekends as required and frequent travel, with some overnight travel.

You will be commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and starting up HVAC systems in a commercial environment. In order to perform your task you will utilize your knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, and mechanical layouts. In this position you will establish & maintain a positive relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers through effective oral and written communication skills via phone, computer, and face to face. You will perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, site surveys, and service requests including replacement, and modifications of equipment or systems as needed or requested by customers. Communicating with customers and/or Project Managers regarding inspection/service findings is required. * Responsible for end to end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects. * Represents the company by serving as the direct customer contact and is responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, analyzing, diagnosing and repairing equipment and systems at customer's location. * Coordinates with team leader and customer to precisely understand requirements for all on-site installation and repairs by extensively examining building layouts, forecasting issues, gathering materials and synchronizing on-site work. * Uses cutting edge software and technology, along with a variety of hand-tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units. * Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions. * Displays team effort and dedication to customer by maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weeks as the business requires, including occasional overnight stays. Qualifications: * A High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-5 years of experience in HVAC; or equivalent combination of education (Technical School) and experience is required. * Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad). * Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: * DUI in the previous 5 years * Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years. * EPA Certification Preferred (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc.). * This position requires working in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock (high voltage). * This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling.
