Responsibilities

Primary Responsibility: Responsible for coordinating and supervising all warehouse activities of an assigned work team on a shift basis by directing assigned associates in the receiving, warehousing, and shipping of customer product in a manner consistent with service and cost objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and coordinate the most efficient unloading of inbound shipments, orderly stacking of product, and the picking and staging of outbound shipments in accordance with the highest possible levels of quality Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage Responsible for the cross communication between shifts Ensure the efficient and safe operation of all materials handling equipment Maintain a clean; neat, and orderly work area; ensure all security policies and procedures are followed Ensure Associates follow all safety policies and procedures Thoroughly investigate and report all safety accidents and violations in a timely manner. Conduct operations in accordance with OSHA and MSDS Standards Ensure proper food safety practices are maintained Direct the operations of the assigned work team to achieve prescribed objectives Conduct shift meetings Follow all policies and procedures Plan work schedules and assign duties to maintain adequate staff for effective performance of activities and response to fluctuating workloads Prepare and maintain work records and reports of information such as employee time and wages, daily receipts, or inspection results Collaborate with workers and managers to solve work-related problems Evaluate employee performance and prepare performance appraisals Conduct staff meetings to relay general information or to address specific topics, such as safety Counsel employees in work-related activities, personal growth, or career development Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary measures Assess training needs of staff and arrange for or provide appropriate instruction Resolve personnel problems, complaints, or formal grievances when possible, or refer them to higher-level supervisors for resolution Other duties as requested

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience:

  • HS Diploma, Associates Degree Preferred 3+ years supervisory or warehouse experience; or successful completion of Americold's internship program; or a bachelor's degree Maintain forklift certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform the same work duties as those supervised or performs more difficult or skilled tasks or assist in their performance Ability to supervise employees Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Ability to communicate effectively with variety of individuals Ability to pay close attention to detail Strong interpersonal skills and judgment in communicating with staff Must be able to relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions: they must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes; perform work activities requiring reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a manager Willingness to develop a mentoring relationship in order to contribute experience, skills, and wisdom to subordinate employees for their development Receptive to management development suggestions and willing to seek additional knowledge to facilitate job growth Excellent written and oral communication skills Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously Must have very strong customer service orientation with high sense of urgency in meeting objectives and deadlines May require experience working in a union environment Tools and Technology Required: Microsoft Office Suite, Calculators, Desktop computers and Photocopiers

This position is the highest acting authority on site during off hours. Primary area of focus is to ensure production schedules are met while maintaining product quality levels and a safe working environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Assure proper and efficient use of staff and equipment to meet production needs on assigned shifts while maintaining cost and overtime to a minimum. * Ensures that all product is produced conforms to product specifications for each customer. * Assists in maintaining, creating, and enforcing accurate policies and procedures across entire facility. * Fosters a safe work environment by adhering to and enforcing all safety policies and regulations. * Coaches team and holds them accountable for their action by administering disciplinary actions * Effectively ensures equipment and facilities are fully operational in conjunction with maintenance staff and through coordination with the previous shift. * Accommodates training of assigned shift employees to ensure their knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures relating to the safety, quality, and productivity for their assigned areas. * Analyzes area operations and recommends measures for continuous improvement. Also supports and promotes employee involvement in continuous improvement programs. * Provides leadership and direction via good communication skills. * Ensures employees are always treated and addressed in a professional manner. * Maintains work areas in a neat and orderly condition, including shift end cleanup. * Works with Planning, Customer Service and Operations Manager to improve on time delivery and production efficiency. * Work on assigned projects, objectives or other duties as assigned. Responsibilities: Directly and indirectly supervises up to 90 employees across the facility on a given shift. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and any applicable federal or state laws. These responsibilities apply to all assigned shift personnel and include the following: * Enforcing organizational policies as outlined in the company handbook. * Tracking attendance and recording employee work hours. * Interviewing and recommending employees for hire. * Communicating and working with Production Manager to fulfill day-to-day staffing needs. * Performing safety accident investigations and follow up. * Assigning and directing work. * Appraising work performance; coaching, rewarding, and disciplining employees * Addressing complaints (both internal and external). * Total shift ownership of employee safety, food quality and plant performance This position will also fill other supervisory or operational duties as required including other departments or functions as assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Education Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred. Significant work experience in production operations / management will be considered in lieu of degree. Experience Prior related supervisory experience is desired, preferably in a food manufacturing environment. Experience with Microsoft applications, ERP systems, and relational databases is desirable. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret organizational handbook, business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and organizational procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical / Technical Skills Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to learn and use computer business applications. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization may exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to develop and apply statistical process control techniques.
