Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC), is seeking highly motivated and qualified individual to fill a permanent Warehouse Operator 2 (WO2) position. This position is located at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington. This is a full time, permanent position that typically works Monday through Friday.

Correctional Industries is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated work training programs which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics, and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by providing warehousing services for the centralized commissary operation located at the Washington State Penitentiary (WSP). This position maintains security and control over incarcerated working in the centralized commissary and provides skills training to workers in accordance with Cl Legislative mandate.

Supervises incarcerated workers and participates in the warehousing operations of a large volume warehouse in the functions of loading and unloading vehicles.

  • Opens, packs, unpacks, and inspects incoming and outgoing shipments and relocates warehouse commodities as needed.

  • Practices good inventory control procedures, record maintenance, receiving, storing and distributing goods and services.

  • Enter merchandise into Trust Accounting System (TAS) inventory system. Investigates reported errors with the incarcerated orders and makes corrections when warranted.

  • Provides timely delivery of orders to each living Unit.

  • Ensures shipments received are correct and in good condition.

  • Ensures outgoing shipments are properly packaged

Follows established procedures for facility and equipment maintenance and sanitation and product inventory.

  • Participates in the maintenance, arrangements, and cleanliness of the warehouse facility and equipment.

  • Assists in the planning and effective use of space and equipment.

  • Conducts required periodic inventories

Trains incarcerated workers in all aspects of warehouse commissary operations.

  • Follows established policies and procedures while training incarcerated workers in warehouse commissary operations as well as safe operation of equipment and safe storage practices.

  • Plans and assigns the work of the incarcerated workers.

  • Maintains custody and control over assigned incarcerated workers as required by Department and Cl policies.

Procurement of products.

  • Initiates procurement documents and submits to supervisor for review and final approval.

  • Performs other task as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School graduation or GED equivalent.

  • 2 years of warehouse experience.

  • Have or acquire forklift certification within 6-months of hire.

  • Able to lift and move a minimum of 40 pounds.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in training.

  • Experience working with Incarcerated or in a correctional facility.

  • Knowledge of TAS commissary system.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

  • Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.

  • Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service and other required training.

  • Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.

  • Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.

  • Submit to drug testing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement and agency policy.

  • Must pass pre-employment test.

  • This position is included in a union shop that requires employees to become dues/fee paying members of the labor union within thirty (30) days of employment.
