The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Warehouse Operator 2 located at the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, WA. This is for a full-time, permanent position.

The Washington State Penitentiary (WSP) is comprised of 4 Close Custody Units, 3 Special Housing Units, 2 Intensive Management Units, 2 Medium Units, 3 Minimum Housing Units and a Hospital. In all, WSP houses approximately 2,500 incarcerated individuals and employs approximately 1,100 staff.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Supervision and Training of Incarcerated Individuals

  • Observe/Supervise incarcerated individuals operating and maintaining equipment/machinery.

  • Document and provide feedback on incarcerated individual job performance and behavior.

  • Maintain security and discipline over incarcerated individual workers.

  • Account for incarcerated individual workers.

  • Execute and maintain tool control processes.

  • Maintain key control

  • Maintain accurate timekeeping for incarcerated individuals.

Warehousing

  • Perform warehousing duties in the WSP Main Warehouse under the direction of the Warehouse Manager.

  • When receiving shipments, inspects condition, accuracy and type against order/shipping documents and documents receipt to support vendor payment or credit.

  • Effectively manage inventories to include identifying and maintaining reorder points, stock rotation and inventory levels.

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates incarcerated individual workers.

Inventory Management

  • Responsible for the accuracy of the consumable inventory tracking system.

  • Record and verify goods received and issued in consumable inventory tracking system.

Other Duties Assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • One year of clerical or technical experience in retail clerking, warehousing, stock keeping, shipping and receiving.

  • Valid driver's license required and must be maintained for employment.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Physical ability to do the required work (i.e. lift up to 50 lbs or more with assistance, lift up to 25 lbs unassisted, sit or stand for long periods of time).
