Summary:

The Material Control Manager is responsible for all aspects of managing and leading the site Warehouse (e.g. incoming goods, storage, staging, material flow, shipping and inventory management) to ensure customer needs are met and the company meets financial goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads, assigns and manages the activities of the site's Warehouse to ensure optimal results in safety, quality, productivity and cost.

  • Directs and monitors all warehouse personnel and warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, forklift operations and material staging to ensure production schedules are met on-time and in-full (OTIF).

  • Coordinates day-to-day activities related to pulling and staging materials and components that support meeting the production schedule.

  • Identifies cost optimization opportunities (e.g. reduction of overtime, optimization of movement, human and equipment, redefining DC's lay out and reduce pallet touches for outbound shipments).

  • Establishes meaningful KPIs and scorecards to track performance, drive resolution and communicate results to internal and external customers.

  • Responsible for inventory accuracy (e.g. raw materials, packaging components and finished goods); develops policies and procedures that ensure accountability of inventory, timely reconciliation of inventory variances and management of inventory levels.

  • Audits and reconciles SAP transactions related to inventory movements and initiates corrective actions to resolve discrepancies.

  • Recommends process and operational improvements to ensure the highest level of productivity, capacity and quality are met; implements training plans and standard work for all roles in the warehouse.

  • Partners directly with customers on any distribution center and/or logistic objectives, including distribution activities, book-to-book reconciliations, and physical inventory valuations.

  • Identifies and delivers training w/SAP transactions, on SOPs, On-the-Job procedures and work instructions based on job responsibilities; ensures warehouse personnel are adequately trained and equipped (safety PPE, technology tools, equipment)

  • Leads the annual department budgeting process and controls operational costs to ensure the department operates within budget.

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to support the implementation of new products and equipment.

  • Supports investigations related to errors, safety incidents and quality defects to ensure timely resolutions and preventative solutions to reduce future risks.

  • Leads and promotes safety and continues improvement awareness and responsibility within the department and facility that ensures safe work conditions for all employees, contractors and visitors.

  • Trains, coaches and develops employees within the department to ensure performance expectations and department objectives are met according to established standards; manages performance expectations and delivers feedback.

  • Completes employee performance reviews, preliminary budgetary information, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), inventory and shipping reports and other paperwork according to established company policy.

  • Maintains confidentiality of employee personnel records and salary information; company financials, customer information and other sensitive and confidential information.

  • Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as needed due to workplace demands (e.g. supporting off-shifts). Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in operations, supply chain and logistics or related field is strongly preferred; in lieu of a degree a minimum of 10 years experience in warehousing/DC environment, preferably in the personal care/pharmaceutical/food industry.

  • Minimum of 5 years management experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with SAP MM/SD/WM & RF Scanning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements; SAP (Materials Management, Warehouse Management modules); inventory management, warehouse material flow best practices.

  • Skill in: solving problems; prioritizing work to ensure deadlines are met; managing, coaching and developing others.

  • Ability to: manage multiple and competing priorities; resolve difficult situations with no clear direction; adapt to change; develop and maintain good working relationships; lead and develop a high-performing team; develop and maintain processes and workflows; be detail-oriented; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group of individuals; present information to large and small groups; be organized and work quickly and efficiently with short deadlines; multi-task; read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, including SOPs; work independently and as part of a team; operate a computer; wear required PPE as needed when walking through the facility.

  • Other functions, skills and abilities may apply.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds manually.

  • A climate-controlled office environment; the noise level is usually moderately quiet, however the candidate must be able to spend extended periods of time in the Warehouse where the noise level is usually moderately loud.

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer, stand for long periods of time in the warehouse, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull.

  • Exposure to frequent movement of motorized equipment throughout the facility, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
