Duties: This position is responsible for maintaining the waiting list including all files relating to family placement from the waiting list.

This is a federally funded program through the U.S. Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). All administrative and program related expenses are paid through funds received from HUD. The duties of this position are specialized as required for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Perform all required and necessary actions to maintain the waiting list which includes: initial placement of families on housing program; conducting annual and interim reexaminations of waiting list files, verifying reported income, verifying all required documents such as social security and preference documents, entering data into computer, and copying and printing appropriate file, family and owner documents. This process may also include contacting families and employers. Constant monitoring of the waiting list including sending annual update forms, and annual purging of the list.

Issue files to caseworkers in the order they are to receive vouchers per HUD waiting list requirements with all current information having been obtained and approved prior to the tenant being assigned to caseworker. Must enter all address and family composition changes and any other mail received. Prepare and review monthly reporting of waiting list.

This action requires attention to detail in entering computer data and ensuring correct documentation. Must prepare, review and maintain all information needed for the HUD required briefings, including selection of applicants from the waiting list, letters, lists confirmation numbers and all required documentation from applicant prior to briefing. Must prepare, review and maintain all HUD required documentation regarding the opening of the waiting list including publishing the opening, closing and keeping all records in accordance with HUD regulations.

Must have the ability to handle daily contacts with applicants who call for assistance with various problems relating to their waiting list status and any and all questions relating to the waiting list process. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Obtain or provide documentation of HUD certifications in eligibility and occupancy, when training is available. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word.

Valid Texas Driver's License. PREFFERED: Knowledge of the HUD rules and regulations relating to the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Bilingual in Spanish.

  • From 21 to less than 26 years of service - five weeks of vacation per year.

  • From 26 years of service and up - six weeks of vacation per year.
