Summary

Sorenson Communications is expanding our Video Relay Service (http://www.sorensonvrs.com/). As a result we are seeking Interpreters to provide Sign-to-Voice and Voice-to-Sign interpreting services. Full and part-time positions are available in the US and Canada.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English

  • Maintain, as applicable, compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements

  • Demonstrate full compliance with Sorenson standards and policies, FCC regulations and the RID Code of Professional Conduct

  • Demonstrate full compliance with Sorenson Communications customer service guidelines

  • Demonstrate full compliance with Sorenson Communications attendance policy

  • Accurately complete assigned tasks/duties, projects and paperwork promptly and within approved guidelines

  • The ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, in order to meet the demands of the VRS industry, is essential for this position.

  • Possess the ability to quickly learn and implement new and changing technologies

  • Work effectively in a team environment; receive support from and provide support to colleagues

  • Possess the ability to work effectively in an environment with oversight that may include, but is not limited to: call monitoring, mentoring and evaluations

  • Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic, highly regulated environment

  • Enhance interpreting skills through continued education training

  • Demonstrate willingness and ability to complete additional duties and assignments on an ongoing basis

Experience/Education/Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ consistent years working as a certified sign language interpreter in a variety of settings
  • NAD level IV/V; or a RID CI, CT, CI/CT, CSC; or NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master; or hold a state interpreter certificate at the Intermediate or Master Certificate skill levels or have the professional interpreting experience to become a Sorenson VRS interpreter, subject to skill set verification and screening.

Other General Requirements/Additional Notes

  • Be able to work in an environment that is fast paced, dynamic, highly regulated, and customer service focused.

  • Sit for extended periods of time at a desk using computer and video equipment while processing VRS calls

  • Interpret in ASL and spoken English for extended periods of time

  • Possess the ability to work in a variety of environments and lighting arrangements, fully understanding that video relay work must be structured to present the interpreter in the best physical light possible

  • Positive attitude, team player, good interpersonal communication skills and able to work across company departments.

VIEW JOBS 1/15/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-04-15T00:00 Summary Sorenson Communications is looking for part-time Deaf and hearing community interpreters to provide the highest quality interpretation services for Deaf consumers in multiple locations company wide. Hours scheduled will meet the needs of community demands. Candidates must display a wide continuum of language skills in American Sign Language and English and consistently exhibit excellent internal and external customer service. This position is available to new applicants and current Sorenson non-exempt employees in good standing. All applicants must take and pass a screening for verification of skill sets in order to deliver effective services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Hearing interpreters will effectively interpret between ASL and spoken English * Deaf interpreters will effectively interpret between ASL, Tactile American Sign Language, other forms of visual communication, and written English * Adhere to Sorenson policies and procedures, and the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct * Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a respectful and professional attitude with customers and colleagues * Work effectively in a team environment; receive support from and provide support to colleagues * Exhibit the ability to meet performance and customer service expectations with minimal supervision * Enhance interpreting skills through continuing education and training * Maintain, as applicable, compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements * Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the various interpreting needs in the community setting * Possess the ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment in a variety of settings and locations * Fully comply with Sorenson Communications attendance requirements * Effectively represent the Sorenson Communications brand when interacting with customers in the field * Work with intern students or provide mentoring when appropriate and as assigned * Be prompt and prepared for each interpreting engagement * Flexible with assignment changes * Ability to use technology to accurate reporting for billing, scheduling and service evaluation. * Demonstrate a willingness and ability to complete additional and other duties as assigned Qualifications, Education, and/or Experience: * High School Diploma or equivalent required * Associate's, Bachelor's or advanced college degree preferred * A minimum of three consistent years working as a certified interpreter (NAD level IV/V, or RID CDI, RSC, CI, CT, CI/CT, CSC, MCSC, NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, BEI Level 2, 3, Intermediate or Master or hold a state interpreter certificate at the Intermediate or Master Certificate skill levels or have the equivalent professional interpreting experience) * Interpreting skills are subject to a verification and screening process * Ability to independently travel in the metropolitan area.
