Essential aspects of a candidate's skill set include broad knowledge of the financial markets and asset classes, strong analytical skills, an effective interpersonal style, and a history of professional success. Our openness to a variety of backgrounds is reflected in our existing SPMs' diverse experiences, which include investment banking, equity research, investment consulting, portfolio management, and economic research.

A major component of the position is the ability to communicate appropriate asset allocation approaches, portfolio construction, and performance attribution. Therefore, the SPM must understand the capital markets including equity investing in domestic and international markets, hedge funds and other alternatives, fixed-income investing, fundamental and quantitative research, and risk management.

  • Offering perspective on the capital markets and the economy in client meetings and larger group presentations;

  • Providing insight into the firm's strategies in a variety of investment services, including stocks, bonds, and diverse alternative strategies;

  • Interpreting Bernstein's investment disciplines, including how the firm conducts fundamental and quantitative research, constructs portfolios, incorporates taxes into the decision-making process, and controls risk;

  • Creating marketing materials and a variety of client-servicing presentations summarizing our research insights;

  • Working closely with the Sales Leadership team to improve Financial Advisors' skills and to help them create business development strategies;

  • Engendering trust and confidence among prospective/existing clients and other professionals (e.g., accountants, attorneys, consultants);

  • Assisting in the prospecting of new clients.

The SPMs are also members of the Private Client Investment Policy Group, which oversees Private Client investment advice in this role, the SPM:

  • Contributes extensively to the firm's intellectual capital regarding private-client investments by overseeing leading-edge analytical projects regarding asset allocation, tax management, investment planning, and other critical private-client areas;

  • Regularly vets investment products available in the Private Client channel;

  • Is involved in trading oversight, guideline reviews, and other operational activities related to the private client business;

  • Participates in the development of new investment services;

  • Makes public-speaking appearances to explain our investment disciplines and latest research conclusions.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, the individual must be very bright, quantitative, intellectually sophisticated, client-service oriented, have a hunger to learn, be open to feedback, and be able to work in a team-based culture. High integrity is essential, as SPMs must build strong relationships both inside and outside the firm. Periodic travel is required.

The candidate should have:

  • 10+ years of direct relevant experience in a capital markets environment
  • A Master of Business Administration and/or the Chartered Financial Analyst designation
