Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the President, The Vice President of Finance and Administration/CFO is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, strategic planning, and administrative operations. This position requires a seasoned finance professional with a strong track record in higher education or a related field, who can provide strategic financial guidance, optimize resource allocation, ensure compliance, and drive financial sustainability. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the university's financial future and contributing to its overall success.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies, goals, and policies in alignment with the university's mission, vision, and long-term objectives.

  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the President, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders to support informed decision-making.

  • Prepare and present accurate financial reports, forecasts, and analyses to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop comprehensive budgets that support academic and operational needs.

  • Monitor budget performance, identify areas of concern or opportunity, and provide recommendations for adjustments or reallocation of resources.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize the equitable allocation of financial resources, ensuring the efficient and effective use of funds across the university.

  • Oversee financial operations, including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and procurement, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the university's financial assets and prevent fraud or misappropriation of funds.

  • Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies to facilitate financial audits, reviews, and reporting, ensuring compliance and adherence to best practices.

  • Develop and implement investment strategies to maximize returns on the university's endowment and other financial assets, while managing risks appropriately.

  • Monitor investment performance and market trends, providing recommendations to the President and Board of Trustees for adjustments to investment portfolios.

  • Identify and assess financial risks, including market volatility, liquidity risks, and compliance risks, and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the university's financial health.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Oversight for IT and Facilities departments

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations within the higher education industry.

  • Strong understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation processes.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting techniques.

  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively lead and develop a diverse and inclusive team.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to drive financial and operational improvements.

  • Advanced knowledge of investment strategies, risk management, and compliance in the context of higher education finance.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in financial software systems and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in higher education or a related field.

  • Proven track record in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.

  • Experience in managing complex financial operations and implementing internal controls.

  • Demonstrated success in investment management and optimizing returns on endowment funds.

  • Experience in leading financial audits, compliance reviews, and reporting processes.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.
