Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Vice President, Umbrella Casualty Underwriter located in our NY office, reporting into the Umbrella Leader in New York.
Our U.S. and Canada Insurance Excess Casualty - Retail team partners with national retail brokers to offer third-party liability coverage for the middle market through national accounts. We assist clients across the U.S. and Canada by providing risk solutions effectively and responsively.
We are seeking a Vice President, Umbrella Casualty Underwriter to produce and service large complex multinational as well as Middle Market accounts domiciled in the US, working with a network of retail brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on white glove service.

What you'll be doing:
Underwriting of lead umbrella and excess liability business
Ability to evaluate complex risk and program structures to determine acceptability and all individual risk characteristics and properly determine capacity, attachment point, terms, and pricing in accordance with Sompo guidelines and standards.
Authorizing quotes/binders and Facultative reinsurance as appropriate.
Demonstrates technical underwriting skills through account reviews and file documentation.
Maintain and enhance existing broker relationships and identify and develop new relationships both regionally and outside the territory.
Provide mentoring and technical support to junior underwriters.
What you'll bring:
10+ years of underwriting/insurance experience
Experience writing large complex lead Umbrella business
Knowledge of the primary lines of coverage, in particular GL with history in writing those lines of business
Bachelor's Degree
Experience in working, producing, and underwriting all sizes of accounts with the large national and smaller regional brokerage houses as well as specialty retailers
Ability to work independently, execute the business unit's strategies and be held accountable for assignments to ensure profitability
Relationships with large brokers on both a regional and national level
Salary Range: $160,000 - $240,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
