Job Description: Directs both strategic and tactical systems initiatives supporting the technology requirements of the organization. Responsibilities include the planning, execution, and management of multiple projects in accordance with the Radian Agile Methodology SDLC. Duties include technical leadership for business applications in support of one or more business units. This position directs the establishment and maintenance of consistent procedures, metrics, and development approaches. Routinely interfaces with the Company's business leaders, including C-Level management, and other senior members of the Information Technology team. Duties include managing and developing staff, capacity planning, fiscal accountability, process engineering and Request for Proposal development. The incumbent is responsible for making data-driven decisions and for being highly transparent; communicate thoroughly and timely; always do the right thing for our customers, our shareholders, and our employees; deliver business value -- always; and keep a sense of humor and have fun. The IT function at Radian is morphing from an operational necessity to a strategic element of the Company.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver software releases on-time, on-budget, with high quality and according to agreed-upon scope that delivers business value.

  • Oversee the development of plans and resourcing strategies for the ongoing development and maintenance of multiple software products and services.

  • Establish and maintain consistent procedures, metrics, and development approaches in accordance with the Radian Agile Methodology (RAM) SDLC.

  • Evaluate the impact of business and technology trends on the strategic direction of assigned work portfolio

  • Successfully translate corporate objectives into team and individual goals

  • Direct day-to-day activities of development teams in multiple locations including off-shore members

  • Provide ongoing direction and mentoring to development team members.

  • Provide expertise in project management and development methodologies.

Job Specifications

Knowledge:

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact across the organization

Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, software engineering or related field is required. Masters degree preferred a Ph.D. is a plus.

  • 15+ years experience, including 10 years leading development teams, and 5+ years as a Senior Director level or higher.

  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams of up to 50 development resources, both onshore and offshore

  • Hands-on Development and Architecture Experience in Microsoft .NET, C# / ASP.NET, Visual Studio, MS SQL, Web Services, J2EE, WebLogic

  • Familiarity with multiple software development methodologies

  • Prior experience in building enterprise software products is required

  • Demonstrated project planning, estimation and release management ability

  • Proven ability to plan and manage large-scale, long-duration software development projects/programs

  • Experience with measurement and improvement of software quality

  • Familiarity with financial systems, mortgage or real-estate industry domain expertise preferred

  • Ability to lead with passion, accept ambiguity, organizational agility, and a high Emotional Intelligence.

People Management:

  • Span of control for this position would in include anywhere between 2 - 5 direct reports and 25 - 60 one-down reports. Nearly 65% of the one-down reports could be located at Off-Shore Development Centers. People skills are critical.

  • Technical: 15 years or more

  • Supervisory: 8 - 10 years

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree, Concentration in Computer Science, Software engineering

  • Preferred: Master's Degree, Concentration in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, MBA
