Job Description:

The Role

Fidelity has a strong focus on growth and innovation. FCAT (Fidelity Center for Applied Technology) is Fidelity's core innovation catalyst, helping Fidelity imagine the possibilities and realize the benefits of new ideas and emerging technologies.

We're hiring a Vice President of Research. We're looking for someone who knows how to deliver provocative, clear, concise and forward-looking research that will help Fidelity leadership imagine and build Fidelity's future.

Deep secondary and/or primary research skills are required. Strong ideation, content planning, writing, presentation and communication skills are absolutely required. We're looking for someone who is passionate about the impact emerging technologies will have on the lives of our associates, our customers, and our partners.

You must have a keen desire to be on the frontier; a passion for spotting and explaining trends; deep intellectual curiosity; and proven mastery of being able to tell stories that make your audience excited about those trends. If you have domain expertise in ML, data viz, modeling, or analytics, good. If you're a data scientist with a penchant for science fiction, building with LLMs, RAGs and vector stores, that's even better. If you're excited by complexity theory, cognitive science, new business models, multi-disciplinary research, and the future of our species, let's talk.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • The ability to synthesize, simplify, and communicate complex ideas in an impactful way - showing initiative and creativity in the process

  • The ability to explain how a fledgling technology could change lives

  • Understanding of how the financial industry operates, from regulation, business models, foundational technologies, products, and customers

  • Knowledge of how senior executives, founders, and investors communicate and make decisions

  • MA/MS degree preferred; MBA is a plus; PhDs always welcome

  • Excellent research, writing, and advisory capabilities

  • Critical thinking and insatiable curiosity: the ability to identify and succinctly explain tech-led disruption across the financial services industry

  • Networking and communication skills: the ability to connect and build trust with founders, investors, and senior executives.

  • Openness to working with an editor and your team to make your written deliverables and presentations as strong as possible

  • Strong organizational and project management skills; the ability to help colleagues develop their skills and expertise

The Team

This role reports to FCAT's VP, Research and will develop and provide thought leadership via deliverables such as reports, presentations and prototypes. The base salary range for this position is $124,000-$262,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.
