MetLife's Retirement & Income Solutions (RIS) business provides solutions tailored to meet the unique business needs of plan sponsors in funding and managing the risks associated with qualified, non-qualified and welfare benefit obligations. The group is organized around three primary product areas: Life & Income Funding Solutions, Stable Value & Investment Products, and U.S. Pensions, which collectively offer pension products, institutional income annuities, stable value products, corporate and bank owned life insurance, and post-retirement benefit solutions. In addition, RIS provides annuity solutions for personal injury claims in the structured settlements market.
U.S. Pensions includes our Pension Risk Transfer business in the U.S. Our team of technical pension experts uses a consultative approach to develop and implement de-risking solutions for the Defined Benefits pension plans of our clients. As a team, we strive to identify a client's needs and concerns, present possible solutions, and determine ways to implement them. We work in partnership with sponsors' actuaries, consultants, counsel and other advisors. The VP, Head of Pensions Solutions, is a newly expanded role designed to provide leadership and management for all aspects of U.S. Pension Risk Transfer new sales as well as inforce customer relationship management. Reporting directly to the SVP and Head of US Pensions, this leader will maintain and develop strategic external relationships with consultants, investment banks, brokers, reinsurers, and partners while managing an internal business development team.
Key to the success of the role will be the ability to operate holistically across the multiple stakeholders involved in managing these complex deals to ensure best in class service and delivery. The position interacts closely with all aspects and areas of RIS, including Contracts, Operations, and Marketing, as well as with enterprise stakeholders such as Finance, Investments, Legal, Tax, Controllers, M&A, and Treasury, to respond to RFPs and RFIs, and deliver outstanding customer service. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong influence leadership skills and be expected to drive outcomes in collaboration with internal partners and the external market community.
He or she will be a thought leader and enjoy high visibility internally and externally as the representative of a key strategic growth business for MetLife. This person will also be an agile and seasoned leader with a track record of managing senior teams and developing talent and. Customer Solutions & New Business Development
Lead the vision and strategy to ensure profitable growth of the Pensions business
Direct and lead the development, analysis and execution of potential new business for U.S. Pensions, winning new transactions and building a robust pipeline through the creation of effective and innovative business strategies and solutions
Support the optimization of pricing and capital assumptions and methodologies to improve competitiveness of new deals
Manage appropriate Legal and Contracts review of new business proposals
Act as primary client contact for large pension closeout transactions
Represent MetLife in the industry; provide thought leadership in the public sector marketplace and internally with business partners
Present pension risk solutions to external customers and prospects, including CFO, Treasurer and other senior management levels
Engage as needed with Investments, M&A, and Executive Management on jumbo deals
Customer Relationship Management & Inforce Optimization
Lead client relationships and communications for new and existing Pensions clients to address issues and opportunities in a timely fashion
Cultivate strong relationships with Consultants and Intermediaries to help reinforce MetLife's position as a leading platform; act as relationship manager for key intermediaries; monitor overall satisfaction of industry brokers with MetLife and the way we do business with them
Act as liaison with other areas to provide technical expertise and client perspectives on product development initiatives
Proactively and regularly engage partners, brokers and consultants, and industry groups to stay current on marketplace trends
Partner with internal functional leadership (Finance, Legal, Investments, etc.) as well as Operations staff to maintain and improve high levels of customer satisfaction
Work with Legal and Operations to review legal and regulatory issues, to review and develop service and operational plans, and to optimize inforce customer service
Provide leadership for continuous process improvement for managing our inforce Pension business.

10-15+ years relevant business development and client relationship management experience, including minimum of 5-10 within the pension space
Strong team building and organizational skills; established success in partnering with and/or leading diverse teams of both direct and indirect reports in a complex, matrixed environment, ideally including sales teams
Demonstrated ability to structure and execute pension risk transactions that creatively resolve client, internal MetLife and current market realities
Demonstrated expertise in U.S. Pension products, including knowledge of the industry, marketplace, and regulatory developments and impact on the business
Established client and consultant relationships; recognized thought leader
Excellent financial (including pension finance), actuarial (pension and insurance), accounting (U.S. GAAP and IAS), legal (ERISA) and investments knowledge related to pension liabilities
Strong communication, negotiation, influence and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple large initiatives simultaneously
Excellent presentation and written communication skills including the capability and willingness to present information to internal and external audiences, as well as to those of varying levels of expertise
High organizational intelligence and ability to operate effectively in a highly-matrixed environment
BS required (in Finance, Accounting or similar); MBA, FSA, ASA, or CFA preferred
