Position Title: Vice President Operations, Weld-On Adhesives

Location: Gardena, California, U.S.A.

Reporting Relationship: President, Weld-On Adhesives, Inc.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Weld-On Adhesives is seeking a Top Operations Executive to lead the company's manufacturing organization through an on-going period of significant growth, business processes evolution, and cultural transformation. Accordingly, the role requires a hands-on, yet strategically minded, leader with the breadth and depth of experience necessary to successfully guide the company through its next phases of growth.

As an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, the incumbent will serve as a vital contributor to the development of business strategy, and the achievement of financial and operational performance. As such, the role requires strong strategic perspective, operational leadership, business decision-making, and organizational development capabilities.

Utilizing a strong, effective and engaging leadership style and the thoughtful application of lean methodologies, the Vice President of Operations will be responsible for establishing world-class manufacturing operations, achieving continuous improvements in safety, quality, delivery and cost performance, developing a highly skilled, motivated and engaged workforce, and creating a high-performance/high-expectation operating culture.

The Vice President of Operations will have full-scope responsibility for the global operations of Weld-On, including two domestic, non-union, manufacturing facilities, strong dotted-line oversight of one Shanghai-based manufacturing facility, and any additional manufacturing facilities acquired in the future. Functional areas of responsibility include: Material Planning and Inventory Management, Production Planning and Management, Shipping, Receiving and Logistics Management, Manufacturing and Process Engineering, Quality Assurance and Employee Safety, Health and Environmental Compliance. Strategic Sourcing (Procurement) is managed separately as an IPS corporate function and does not report to the Vice President of Operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct day-to-day manufacturing operations to efficiently and effectively support the achievement of company operational and financial goals, while proactively preparing the organization to successfully attain longer-term strategic goals.

  • Closely monitor operating performance against the financial plan and, where appropriate, make adjustments to capitalize on emerging opportunities or changing conditions. Provide strategic thinking and insight on a wide range of manufacturing related matters that impact customer experience and perceptions, and the operational and financial performance of the company. Work in close partnership and collaboration with other functional leaders, at all levels of the organization, to provide strategic, operational and tactical support on cross-functional business issues.

  • In collaboration with other members of the IPS and Weld-On senior leadership team, actively participate and contribute in the annual strategic planning, financial budgeting and capital spending processes.

  • Establish a vision for the Operations Group and a suitably detailed plan to develop, implement and sustain a strategically aligned lean transformation of people, structure, processes, systems and culture to achieve world-class results in customer satisfaction and value perception, safety, quality, on-time delivery performance, cost reduction and, ultimately, superior operating and financial results.

  • Actively champion continuous process improvement efforts across all aspects of operations and ensure that all manufacturing facilities are properly and consistently applying lean tools and methodologies (e.g. VSM, standard work, pull systems, SMED, variance reduction, etc.) to drive quality, delivery and productivity improvements, while minimizing lead-time and WIP.

  • In collaboration with IPS and Weld-On Human Resources, develop and implement a practical, wellconceived Operations Group Organization Capabilities Development Plan to further strengthen management and employee capabilities, optimize employee development and utilization, and ensure effective participation in continuous improvement efforts.

  • Provide functional expertise and analysis in support of M&A initiatives including due diligence, post-closing integration planning and execution. Maintain a safe work environment that meets and/or exceeds all applicable OSHA and environmental requirements.

  • Finally and importantly, manage all aspects of the business with honesty, integrity and respectfulness, and insure that these values are consistently reflected throughout the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, engineering or other technical related discipline is required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree is preferred.

  • At least fifteen years of progressive operations leadership experience with sufficient breadth and depth across the various functional disciplines of manufacturing is required. At least three years of experience successfully leading full scope manufacturing operations in a business unit of comparable size, scope and complexity is required; prior experience in a process-manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Prior experience in a high-performance/high-expectation operating environment with demonstrated expertise in leading the successful utilization of lean principle and continuous process improvement methodologies is required; black belt certification is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and familiarity with a variety of lean tools and methodologies including, but not limited to: VSM, Standard Work, Pull Systems & Kanban, Integrated Business Planning, Daily Management, 5S/Visual Management, 3P, SMED, TPM, Variation Reduction and Six Sigma.

Compiling, analyzing, and using appropriate data to support ideas and facilitate decision-making is crucial as is the ability to balance meeting short-term business goals without sacrificing or negatively impacting long-term business prospects.

  • Engaging Leadership Style: The Vice President of Operations must exhibit a strong, confident and engaging leadership style. The incumbent must display strong, authentic interpersonal and communications skills, and an ability to quickly establish trust with a diverse workforce.

  • Lean / Continuous Improvement Mindset: The Vice President of Operations must exhibit a genuine commitment to continuous improvement, with a passion to teach others how to apply lean tools to achieve better results. The incumbent must have an appropriate sensitivity to cultural issues impacting the lean transformation process and a demonstrated ability to successfully overcome associated barriers.

  • Culture Change Capabilities: As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President of Operations will play a very active and important role in driving positive cultural changes to achieve operational excellence across the enterprise. As such, the incumbent must have an in-depth understanding of how to establish and maintain a high-expectation/high performance culture as well as the interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to create followership and successfully guide the transformation process.

  • Results Orientation / Personal Accountability: The Vice President of Operations must place a premium value on results, not activity or effort, with a bias for driving breakthrough performance, not incremental gain. The incumbent must reflect a high degree of personal accountability, ownership and integrity.
