Your Responsibilities:

Reporting in to the SVP Head of Data & Computational Science, the Head of AI/ML will be responsible for developing and executing the new R&D Strategy to access large databases derived from carefully genotyped and phenotyped patient populations, coupled with technological advances in data analytics, to direct drug discovery and development to a new generation of targets with significantly increased probability of success.

As the Head of AI/ML you will focus on addressing our most complex problems from drug discovery (genome analytics, compound screening, safety prediction, target validation, biological networks) through to development and the release of new medicines. Additionally, you will increase the skills and capabilities of the broader Data Science community at GSK.

Working in partnership with scientific domain experts, you will develop and implement state-of-the-art AI/Machine Learning approaches on novel R&D problems. You will also continue to advance the AI/Machine Learning discipline by evaluating unique aspects of drug discovery problems and configuring algorithms to provide a competitive advantage in disease understanding, biomarker development, target validation, speed to develop viable compound and prediction of compound success in humans (Efficacy/Safety).

GSK is seeking an expert in the application of Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning to lead us on this exciting journey where the advances in the use of AI/ML for drug discovery and development will play a significant part in bringing life-changing medicines to patients enabling them to do more, feel better and live longer.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, build and deployment of AI/ML solutions for large and very large datasets

Provide thought-leadership to the broader R&D organization on the optimal evaluation and implementation of AI/ML

Lead a team of AI/ML data scientists in addressing our most complex problems across the drug discovery and development value-chain including but not limited to; genome analytics, compound screening, safety prediction, target validation, biological networks

Lead the rapid expansion of the AI/ML resources through personal network and professional recruitment

Lead the strategy, design and implementation of scalable, efficient, automated processes for model development, model validation and model implementation and large scale data analysis

Identify emergent trends and opportunities for additional data analytical development

Technical Skills & Experience

Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field

Demonstrated deep expertise in the Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning field, with a record of publication on emerging capabilities

Expertise in drug discovery is preferred, but not required

Proven direct experience in the use of analytical tools, such as SPSS, R, Python, etc to develop models

Demonstrated ability to manage, retain and grow teams of data scientists

A deep knowledge of data analytics and the deployment of solutions within a diverse environment

Hands-on experience building retrospective and predictive models including clustering, classification, social network analysis, association to solve business issues;

Knowledge of and experience in planning and performance management methods and best practices, as well as emerging trends and capabilities in the areas of business improvement (project management, change management, continuous improvement).
