Vice President, Global Pricing

Lead the Global Pricing function for BMS, with the following key responsibilities:

Oversee all price action decisions and initiatives on behalf of the US and over 80 markets worldwide for the BMS portfolio.

Anticipate and analyze significant changes in both external and internal market pricing dynamics to shape and execute global pricing strategies, inform company pricing policy, and drive well-informed decisions.

The position ensures the development and execution of effective BMS pricing strategies that:

  • Represent the value our products bring to patients and health systems both in the US and WW markets around the world

  • Sustain the development of new products and innovation

  • Are competitive with changing market dynamics

  • Meet sales objectives and bring value to shareholders

  • Are aligned with Global Access Marketing strategies

The position is responsible for the providing deep insights into the economics of our products and payment regulations, and designing and executing contracts that maximize the value of our products. The position interfaces with the GMs, SVP for MAx, BU Leads, the VPs for US MAx, Legal, and Finance. The position reports directly to the VP of Global Pricing and Health Systems Analytics.

Additional Responsibilities (across US and ex-US Global Markets):

Accountable for collaborating with broad functional and geographic teams to drive Global pricing execution processes and initiatives, including establishing and driving the agenda for the US Pricing Committee and WW Price Exception Committee meetings with senior leadership and oversee applicable pricing governance structure.

Develop and make recommendations to senior management decision-makers on all significant market-specific BMS pricing proposals.

Working with Finance to project GTN impact, and ensuring that we deliver on our stated GTN goals

Provide expertise and play a pivotal role in key pricing & reimbursement negotiations across the globe. This includes designing and conducting in-market mock negotiations.

Own and drive the evolution of the WW Pricing platform (APEX) that supports WW pricing strategy execution, price approvals, WW price reporting/analytics and Pricing & Market Access tracking.

Development and execution of pricing and contracting strategies that meet stated goals, including launch for new brands/indications, consistent with access and overall brand strategy

Participation in, and pricing and contractual support of, ongoing payer and organized customer contract negotiations

Analyzing potential budgetary impact of proposed payment policy changes and advising on the incorporation of standardized and documented assumptions

Design and support of innovative contractual approaches that increase or unlock access to BMS products, lower GTN, and provide a competitive advantage

Ensuring that probability analyses are performed and communicated prior to entering into innovative, at risk, contracts

Ensuring US Government Price Reporting's input is obtained during the strategic development of new pricing and contractual options

Ensuring contracts are written in a clear manner that meets all legal standards

Candidate Specifications:

Extensive pharmaceutical industry experience; at least 10 years in areas related to pricing and reimbursement across both US and international markets.

The ability to analyze markets and provide a vision for the future, and then to communicate the vision in a manner that rallies and inspires others.

Proven ability to stimulate and lead through change.

Strong knowledge of analytical and conceptual tools that are relevant to pricing and contracting.

Ability to listen, and yet be decisive; and to create an environment that values diversity of thoughts and opinion.

Proven ability to lead and provide growth opportunities for a team of high performing individuals.

Exceptionally strong strategic thinking skills and ability to apply in a variety of complex business situations.

Excellent communication skills: with ability to flex communication style across a broad and diverse set of international markets. Ability to communicate complex pricing analyses in simple terms. Well-developed presentation skills with strong capabilities to lead effective presentations with all levels of management.

Ability to influence key decision-making across diverse functional areas, up to and including the CEO.

Proven focus on integrity and credibility.

Understanding of marketing mix and the role of pricing and access as part of the mix.

Willingness for frequent overseas travel to perform a variety of face-to-face interactions with worldwide markets and regional leadership.

Working knowledge of government affairs and policy, as well as relevant experience outside of Market Access in fields such as Sales & Marketing, Business Analytics and Insights, Finance, Business Development, Medical, R&D.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus MBA or health economics degree/experience

  • 10 - 15 years of pharmaceutical industry, medical, or retail pricing experience

  • Proven ability to both perform in-depth analytical analyses and to communicate these results in a simple, clear and concise manner to executives

  • Proven deep understanding of the Legal issues associated with pharmaceutical pricing, contracting and government price reporting

  • Three to five years of payer/organized customer sales and negotiation experience; or payer / health system provider experience

  • Legal degree and/or experience with pharmaceutical contracting and government price reporting

  • Brand or payer marketing experience a plus
