We're actively seeking a talented VP Engineering Excellence to join Pacific Life Technology. This new role will report to the SVP Architecture, Engineering and Platforms. The role is ideally based in Newport Beach, California with a hybrid work mode.

As the VP Engineering Excellence, you will play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by developing and executing upon the overall strategy and roadmap for the ecosystem of technologies driving engineering excellence across Pacific Life. This position has the unique opportunity to both craft and execute the future state vision, while balancing technical and business value considerations. Successful candidates will have deep engineering and application development experience and will not be afraid of challenging technical constraints and procedures to achieve superior solutions that will result in positive business outcomes including increased speed of delivery, improved quality/security of code, and optimized flow. This role provides untapped potential to be part of a large scale 'business backed' enterprise technology strategy that will shape the future of the ecosystem in the industry.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished, innovative technology executive with a demonstrated track record of driving and delivering results with a strategic mindset. S/he will be seen as an expert as it relates to the technical components of the domains / products / journeys that the organization engages and possess hands-on and functional knowledge within relevant areas such as the SDLC toolchain, infrastructure and operations including CI/CD pipelines, test automation, container-based deployment technologies, and SRE practices.

Lastly, the new leader will have strong communication skills with the ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions, as well as the ability to attract the right digital talent into the organization. S/he will be an active coach and mentor whose goals are to grow and maximize the team's potential and performance, being a high-energy and passionate individual who inspires and successfully engages teammates. The ideal candidate will be excited about trying new solutions and will embrace a culture of trust, free thought, and complete transparency among the team. S/he will be brave and forward leaning, challenging the status quo as needed to enable the strategy, elevate engineering practices across the technology landscape and position Pacific Life for long term success.

How you will make an impact:

  • Lead engineering to be future-ready, driving technical vision across the enterprise

  • Lead standardization of engineering excellence practices, tools, and automated patterns

  • Mobilize teams around the execution of the engineering technology strategy to achieve strategic objectives with clearly defined and measured outcomes

  • Lead engineering chapter teams, guide delivery teams

  • Achieve superior solutions that will result in positive business outcomes including increased speed of delivery, improved quality/security of code, and optimized flow

  • Embed a test and learn mindset. Promote innovation

The experience you will bring:

  • 15+ years of experience in technology engineering and leadership, preferably 5+ in an executive level role

  • Deep insight into newest technologies and trends

  • Hands-on and functional knowledge within the SDLC toolchain, cloud infrastructure and operations including CI/CD pipelines, security, test automation, container-based deployment technologies, and SRE practices

  • Experience establishing and developing an engineering excellence team and broader engineering talent across the enterprise

  • Strong communication and organization capabilities including process and data-driven execution as well as driving accountability across teams

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience leading large-scale, multi-year transformation and capability building efforts

  • Experience in digital transformations and effective digital capability building

  • Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) and use of data insights

  • A history of developing, socializing, and maintaining functional technology strategy and roadmaps including building explicit alignment with business objectives

  • Demonstration of effectively balancing the desire and need for broad change with an understanding of how much change the organization is capable of handling, to create realistic goals and implementation plans that are achievable and successful

  • Life insurance and Financial Services industry experience

This role is eligible for a broader range than what is noted and includes additional incentive pay.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$235,350.00 - $287,650.00
