Job Summary

We are looking for an individual to join our Data Transformation team as a Data Governance Manager for Arch Insurance North America (AINA).

The individual will actively work to operationalize and embed Data Governance principles, processes and tools across AINA, enabling the organization to more effectively manage and use data across the business. They are responsible for research, development and implementation of guidelines to support best-practices for Data Governance which will include using our Data Governance Platform to support our Data Dictionary; Lineage; and Data Quality efforts. A key function of this role will be the support of AINA's Data Stewardship Program.

They will work closely with the AINA Data Management Team supporting Data Transformation and the build of our new data framework. Additional collaboration will include the AINA Data Operations Manager and other Business managers across the organization.

The Data Governance Manager will work to ensure AINA's Data Governance Framework is consistently applied across the organization. The individual will work collaboratively with stakeholders from across the business and the wider data strategy team. The position will report to the VP, Data Governance.

  • This is a Hybrid (twice-a-week) in office role in our Hartford, Jersey City, NYC, or Philadelphia offices.

Desired Skill Set

General DG and Related Skills

  • Strong technical background (SQL; Database principles)

  • Prior experience in an Agile Framework

  • Experience leading Projects/Teams through indirect leadership

  • Prior Data Profiling experience

  • Understands complex data relationships

  • Knowledge of MDM principles

  • Demonstrated Problem Solving ability

  • Experience leading diverse groups toward a common goal

  • Prior Operations experience

  • Prior knowledge of Privacy and Security principles for North America

  • Experience with Change Management principles

  • Travel as directed / requested

Data Governance Tools / Platform

  • Data Governance platform experience (catalogue; glossary; Data Quality (min 5 years)

  • Experience with Data Governance and Data Quality Management, Master Data Management and Metadata Management frameworks and their implementation

  • Experience creating, tracking, and reporting data governance metrics and KPIs

  • Experience with Power BI preferable

  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Office 365, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams)

  • Experience using Confluence, Jira, Sharepoint and Lucid/Visio would be beneficial

Collaboration/Communication

  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Technical writing / documentation

Anticipated Responsibilities

Data Governance

  • Ongoing execution of Data Strategy and support of Data Store initiative

  • Execution of AINA DGC charter

  • Framework strategy; design; education

  • DG Framework rollout and execution as directed by EDGC and DGC

  • AINA DGC Facilitation and primary contact

  • DG SME (DQ; MDM; Framework)

  • Training and oversight of DG Manager and DT Admin

  • Collaboration with Report Governance Lead as required

Data Stewardship

  • Design and execution of Data Stewardship program

  • Training for initial Data Stewards

  • Support and oversight of Data Stewardship Forums when required

  • Serve to escalate DSF items to DGC as required

  • Oversight of tagging and masking

Data Quality

  • Oversight of AINA DQ Tools

  • Training and onboarding of DG Manager and continued support as required

  • Approval and confirmation of new DQ rules as required

  • Escalate DQ items to AINA DGC and/or EDGC as required

  • Oversight of DQ metrics and outcomes

  • Reporting DQ outcomes to AINA DGC and Executive Management as required

Data Governance Platform

  • Collibra (or similar) oversight and support of DG Manager and DSF members as required

  • Collaboration with Collibra CoE and IT as needed

  • Oversight of Collibra Data Glossary and Data Diagraming technique

  • Training and Education to DG Manager regarding the above as directed

Master Data Management

  • Approval or escalation of proposed MDM requests to AINA DGC as required

  • Communication and collaboration with DS DPM and BSA to request needed data for MDM analysis

  • Review and validate MDM analysis and requests

  • Oversight of MDM Pilot and eventual MDM process as directed

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management, Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or related field(s) preferred.

  • P&C insurance experience preferred (minimum 5 years)

  • Minimum 5 years experience or knowledge of Data Governance, Metadata Management, Data Quality, Master Data Management, and Data Stewardship principles and preferably hold a relevant certification (e.g. DAMA, DCMP, DCAM or similar)

  • Minimum 5 years experience applying technical and business skills to perform data analysis, understand business requirements and translate that knowledge into descriptive metadata and reference data

  • Experience working with cloud-based applications and experience with system testing and understanding IT security principles.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$150,000 - 200,000/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above range may be modified in the future
