As the Vice President of Data Engineering and Governance, you will lead our organization's data engineering initiatives, driving innovation, efficiency, and excellence in managing and leveraging data. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of our data infrastructure, ensuring its scalability, reliability, and security to support our business objectives. This role reports directly to the Chief Information Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor a high-performing team of data architects and engineers, providing guidance, support and professional development opportunities.

• Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate data engineering strategies with overall business strategies and manage the flow of data throughout its lifecycle.

• Architect, implement, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines, multi-cloud data ecosystems, warehouses, and data lakes to support the organization's analytics, machine learning and AI initiatives.

• Drive data democratization, data literacy and a DataOps culture companywide while retiring data silos

• Drive the adoption of emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering for both structured and unstructured datasets to enhance efficiency, reliability, data integrity and performance.

• Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, security policies and regulations.

• Establish and enforce data quality standards and data lineage processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of data assets.

• Implement monitoring and quality assurance measures to proactively identify and address data issues.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data science, machine learning, analytics, and operational intelligence, to deliver data solutions on-demand.

• Collaborate and drive integration of data engineering solutions into enterprise systems and applications.

• Identify opportunities for performance improvement and scalability enhancements in data engineering processes and systems.

• Develop and manage the data engineering budget, including resource allocation, procurement, and vendor management.

• Ensure effective resource planning and utilization to meet project deadlines and organizational objectives.

Ideal Experience

• Proven experience, at least 7+ years, in a senior leadership role in data engineering or a related field.

• Strong technical expertise in data engineering technologies and tools, such as ETL/ELT frameworks, cloud platforms, relational and NoSQL databases, DataOps, data warehousing solutions, etc.

• Extensive knowledge of data management principles, data governance, and data security best practices.

• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.

• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and actionable plans.

• Effective communicator with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

• Experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment with a focus on delivering business value through data-driven solutions.

• A college degree in computer science, engineering, or a related major is required. An MBA or similar advanced degree would enhance the candidate's qualifications.

Strong execution skills: Drives flawless execution of day-to-day data engineering as well as continuous improvement initiatives, and the management of critical projects and programs. It is essential that the individual has the ability to personally solve problems, coach others, step up and take decisive action to rectify issues. Well organized and rigorous in prioritization of issues and projects. Must have a track record in setting data direction that enables the delivery of the company's business strategy.

Leadership skills: A decisive leader who can create and excel in a team-oriented environment. The ability to quickly forge strong sustainable relationships with both the business and technical teams. Strong management skills, including the development of successors and bench strength, are required. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate views crisply and convincingly, and adapt style so as to have the greatest impact on a given audience. Ability to collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams.

Technical skills: A proven technologist who has deep understanding of modern Architecture patterns and building structured and unstructured database platforms, DevOps, and Cloud Native platforms and open source technologies. This person must possess an understanding of agile development methodologies, test-driven development, and performance testing and quality measurement.

Business perspective: While technical skills are important, the VP Data Engineering and Governance must also bring a strategic business perspective to anticipate key marketplace trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities. He/she must be able to position the Company's technology organization appropriately and have a deep understanding/hands-on experience in operations, business process redesign and continuous improvement.
