Overview

The VP of Content plays a lead role in the strategic planning and execution of GM Financial's marketing and outbound communication efforts. Responsible for developing an integrated content strategy across multiple channels including web, email, direct mail, mobile, video, social media, advertising and editorial. In collaboration with other Marketing leaders, the VP of Content will direct, develop and implement customer and dealer facing communication and marketing programs designed to support the company's objectives. Develop a content strategy designed to engage our audiences as well as create brand awareness, support and protect the company's reputation, and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders. This role ensures clarity and consistency of messaging in all outbound communications. In addition, this strategic level role will influence vision and strategy for content and marketing capabilities as well as serve as an enabling agent across the company to create competitive advantages for our brand. The role will own responsibility for a holistic and compelling content strategy for GMF consumers, customers and dealers.

Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

  • Direct, develop and execute content for marketing programs that help strengthen GM Financial's brand position with dealers, consumers, ensure customer loyalty and retention

  • Oversee and provide strategic direction and editorial guidance for the content and messaging in all external communication channels, including web, email marketing, direct mail, mobile, video, social media and advertising

  • Lead and manage team of communicators to develop new, engaging content across all mediums, ensuring that messaging is relevant, concise, visually compelling and channel-friendly

  • Collaborate on the creative content development for print and digital campaigns

  • Direct and lead staff members to create, curate and distribute innovative, engaging content using online, video, print and other creative formats to engage all audiences and positively affect the perception of the company

  • Develop an understanding of various audience segments and develop content strategies accordingly

  • Establish appropriate reporting to assess and measure effectiveness of content and messaging, optimize content accordingly based on results

  • Monitor and identify critical business issues and opportunities that require strategic communications to external audiences

  • Provide leadership and guidance to Content team Empower and provide development opportunities

  • Coach, mentor and train direct reports to establish a consistent level of quality, accuracy, accountability, and compliance of standards

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Conform with all corporate policies and procedures

Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of corporate communication and marketing communication principles and practices

  • Working knowledge of management processes such as planning, personnel administration, and budgeting

Skills

  • Highly developed writing and editing skills with an understanding of writing styles for various channels

  • Strong presentation to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences; clear articulation of messages in all mediums

  • Proven track record of providing guidance and counsel to leaders to craft and drive change management

  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members at all levels throughout the company

  • Ability to understand GM Financial's business, apply knowledge and critical thinking skills in day-to-day problems and solutions

  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to coach, lead, motivate, and influence others to support corporate goals and objectives

  • Ability to create and manage a department budget and keep costs within that budget

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple initiatives using effective time

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or in related field or equivalent work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required

Experience

  • Greater than 10 years of progressively responsible experience in leading and directing communications, marketing content or related experience required

Duties & Responsibilities * Strategize: Develop content plans that support Pier 1's monthly marketing calendar, promotional plans, and marketing initiatives. Use merchandise priorities, marketing strategy, and site performance data to build plans that drive Pier 1's online and instore business. Must work closely with digital marketing and social media teams to ensure their strategies with content that is optimized for those visitors. * Project Management & Execution: Create and manage requests through content briefs and workflow management tools. Assist with the communication of content plans to various business partners as they evolve. Partner with site merchandisers to provide clear navigation from all content pieces. Partner with creative team to ensure all content requests are fulfilled according to the brief, and work closely with the site production team to ensure content goes live as planned. Responsible for validating all content prior to launch, assuring we provide a superior customer experience. * Analytics: Partner with Web Analyst to understand content performance, and in turn incorporate those insights into future content plans. Must be able to understand content performance KPIs, and articulate content performance results to multiple teams as needed. * Content Customer Experience Improvement: Drive for improvement and innovation in the content experience onsite. Understand the competitive landscape and how other retailers are using content. Work with creative and the user experience team to find opportunities to improve content design with a focus on personalization and testing.
