As a Commercial Card Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and building new business opportunities in an assigned territory of middle-market prospects with annual revenue of $10-$500MM. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of the sales process including prospecting, sales, underwriting, implementation, and post-implementation follow-up. This position works independently with minimal supervision from the team leader. You will be expected to disrupt prospects' thinking and deliver solutions that dramatically transform their businesses.

General Responsibilities:

  • Use insight and consultative selling techniques to teach customers about their industry and offer unique perspectives on their business, which link back to Capital One's solutions

  • Design and implement sales strategies to ensure the company meets its revenue objectives

  • Coach customer stakeholders and build consensus for Capital One's solutions within their organization

  • Responsible for building new customer relationships with Capital One's commercial payments products (purchasing, travel, and electronic account payable solutions)

  • Sales lead generation through internal/external referral process, outbound marketing, and industry networking events

  • Candidate will manage multiple phases of sales cycle, including initial contact, identification of client needs, presentations/product demos, negotiation, underwriting, & implementation

  • Develops, manages and maintains relationships with any local managers from other Capital One businesses

  • Refers business appropriately to internal partners including Small Business and Middle Market

  • Maintains broad and technical product knowledge including competitor product information

  • Works independently and provide weekly reports to management

  • Maintains and updates CRM system regarding sales calls, pipelines and closed sales


  • Strategic thinking, communication, interpersonal influence, networking, project ownership, and workflow management skills

  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, telephone and PC Skills

  • Experience selling within treasury management or procurement, including:

  • Cash Conversion Cycle

  • Procure to Pay process

  • Accounts Payable

  • Invoice Management

  • Payment Automation

  • Corporate travel & expense management

  • Previous Experience selling web-based technology solutions

  • Consumer or Small Business Card product experience

  • Ability to work autonomously to find qualified leads and transition to sales

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or military experience

  • At least 3 years of business to business sales experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 Years of experience selling commercial card product

Direct Management Received: Under the general guidance of the Director of Treasury Management and Merchant Processing Sales Direct Management Exercised: Provide functional guidance and support for Merchant Card Services Officers. Promote and sell merchant card processing program through a blend of personal prospecting as well as partnering to develop internal and external referrals. 2. Manage the prospect sales process including the creation of sales materials and proposals for potential customers. 3. Serve in lead capacity for Merchant Card Services team. Provides assistance with: a. Issue resolution on questions from the team across the regions. b. Resolution of complex customer issues. c. Technical assistance for staff and customers. d. Updates on changes with the Merchant Card product, vendor, technical issues, outages, etc. as necessary. e. Communications with Banking Centers. f. Development and maintenance of standard procedures. 4. Research and resolve inquiries from internal and external partners; includes, cash management, finance, retail operations, product vendor, etc. 5. Remain current on product, industry and technical merchant card knowledge and up to date with regulatory changes. 6. Actively partner with, train and educate partner lines of business on the Merchant Card Products and Solutions offered 7. Maintain and review client records for merchant card clients. 8. Prepare weekly/monthly sales and activity reports for Sales management. 9. Review and manage monthly merchant card customer account activity to ensure profitability and manage charge backs. 10. Conduct annual review of ach and merchant card customer files and when appropriate, partner with Business and Commercial Bankers for client relationship reviews.
