CCB is advancing towards a transformation where high velocity software engineering of business capabilities is paramount. This strategy is being driven by the increasing use of digital platforms on the part of our customers as they bank with us and the evolution of financial products and services and their potential integration into digital banking ecosystems.

The Data Engineering Architect will play a lead role for helping define, implement and evolve key architectural components of the enterprise data ecosystem underlying the digital transformation. These include the enterprise data lake, operational data store (ODS), and numerous data stores supporting a predominantly microservices-based architecture. The role will focus on several aspects of the data architecture as follows:

  • Define a holistic metadata strategy for digital banking architecture, including architecture and design patterns defined for capture and management of metadata from operational data stores (including mainframe/distributed/microservices), analytics/BI data stores, ODS, reference and master data and data in-transit, for data hosted on dedicated/on-prem, private, public and hybrid environments, and the integration of this metadata into a centralized enterprise metadata repository.

  • Various engineering aspects of capturing and integrating business and operational metadata across the enterprise into the centralized repository including scalability, usability, logical metamodel, etc.

  • Research, evaluate and select champion tools in the marketplace to meet the metadata capture and management needs of modern, highly distributed data ecosystem including data lakes with both batch and real-time integration architectures - providing visibility and transparency to govern and control data at scale.

  • Drive reference implementations with CDO partners, to capture metadata at design and deploy time to provide evergreen transparency and compliance.

  • Drive data domain modeling, data engineering and data resiliency design standards across the microservices fabric.

  • Define integration patterns for real-time events captured from the microservices fabric into a big data ecosystem supporting traditional BI and analytics as well as embedding and operationalizing Artificial Intelligence patterns such as Machine Learning into the microservices fabric.

  • Work with the Lead Architects, Chief Information Architects, and CTOs on general and specific data strategies, solutions and technical guidance using industry standards and domain specific best practices.

  • Guide agile teams in applying these patterns to key software products and will guide software engineering teams in implementing customer-driven autonomous application architectures.

  • Act in the role of lead design authority to include: breaking down business requirements into technical tasks, establishing design and coding standards, performing code reviews, etc.

  • Roll up sleeves and develop as needed.

  • Ensure that proper data management rigor is in place so that users are confident in the quality of the data.

  • The qualifications required for the Data Engineering Architect role are as follows:

  • Over 12 years of experience in data management and engineering, and demonstrate

  • Expertise with meta data management and schema management

  • Expertise in engineering with distributed database technologies like Hadoop and Cassandra, along with data replication strategies, resiliency strategies, cluster management, and hands on experience with eventual consistency models.

  • Expertise with event sourcing and event streaming. Specifically with technologies like Kafka.

  • The role of the Data Engineering Architect is to work on architecting the reference implementation required for the consumer bank's micro services strategy and design 3 key customer interactions to on-board to the cloud platform.

  • Expertise in engineering with replication of datasets from and to Mainframe (DB2/IMS) to distributed Cassandra database technology.

  • Expertise in data replication strategies and hands on experience with eventual consistency models.

  • Expertise with meta data management and schema management

  • Expertise in data resiliency engineering.

  • Expertise with event sourcing and event streaming. Specifically with technologies like Kafka.

  • Expertise with microservices design and development.

  • Provide application design and engineering guidance on building databases with resiliency and fault tolerant needs.

  • Architect key customer interactions to leverage reference implementation.

  • Experience building, hosting, and deploying applications in the cloud.

  • Expertise in creating data insights applications using Storm/Spark

  • Ongoing information sharing and supporting the organization to ramp up and embrace the distributed database architecture.

  • Ability to communicate with senior leaders in the organization.

  • several years of experience working in a big data environment. Hands-on Hadoop, Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, Akka, Java, lambda architectures and technologies, cloud based microservices.

  • Analytics and machine learning engineering background, frameworks, data management, big data logical/physical schemas, data management, formats and structures.

  • Data Management, big data resiliency implementations.

  • Embedded intelligence engineering, BigData analytics engineering, operationalizing data applications, data and model governance.

  • extensive experience implementing data pipelines in big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, AWS EMR, and Redshift.

  • hands-on experience with operational analytics and BI at scale.

  • hands-on experience on cloud based platforms and technologies such as containers, orchestration, .

  • good knowledge of Java, preferably also Scala and/or Python.
