GENERAL SUMMARY

The Vice President for Academic Affairs is directly responsible for the leadership and administration and the planning, development, maintenance, and operation of the college curriculum and other academic programs. The VPAA is a member of the President's Council and is expected to ensure that the College runs effectively and efficiently in documenting, developing, monitoring, and achieving institutional and academic goals. Under the general direction of the President, this position has specific responsibility and authority to develop, nurture, and evaluate all academic activities for the college.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Directs essential aspects of the Academic Affairs division, including academic planning and management, hiring and supervising faculty and staff, and promoting enrollment and retention in academic programs.

  • Serves as the Chief Academic Officer and maintains responsibility for the overall leadership of the College's instructional units.

  • Develops, implements, and administers goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures necessary to provide assigned services and functions to the College.

  • Works collaboratively with members of the College Leadership Team to assist the President in maintaining a unified vision for student success that supports the College's purpose and mission.

  • Develops, interprets, and refines academic policy and procedures.

  • Participates in preparing and evaluating the college catalog, faculty and student handbooks, and other publications.

  • Oversees institutional accreditation activities and other compliance areas.

  • Engages in academic-focused data cultivation, reporting, and visualization to promote evidence-based decision-making.

  • Manages teaching and learning with the faculty, develops effective teaching tools and strategies, and promotes practices that lead to student learning, retention, and completion.

  • Ensures faculty are effective and student success-focused by providing timely and effective training to all faculty.

  • Oversees instruction in on-campus, off-campus, and distance courses.

  • Collaborates with College leadership to investigate, assess, adopt, or discontinue courses, programs, and pedagogical approaches based on data, national trends, local needs, and analysis of the labor market.

  • Oversees processes that assess academic effectiveness, incorporate the principles and practices of curriculum development, evaluate student learning objectives, and improve student learning outcomes attainment.

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive division budget; practices sound stewardship through the effective administration of funds allocated to the division; works collaboratively with the Vice President of Finance to ensure accurate and sound accounting of budgets relative to the division; takes necessary actions to ensure compliance with budget limitations and established fiscal policies; and oversees the training of budget managers.

  • Ensures the College has innovative workforce training programs that respond to community labor market demands by partnering with business and industry.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises deans, department chairs, and academic support staff.

  • Oversees faculty recruitment, evaluation, development, and retention.

  • Leads and manages the Academic Affairs department.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Ability to travel to attend academic conferences, meetings, and events as needed.

  • Occasionally, lifting and moving objects up to 15 pounds may be required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field

  • Eight years or more experience related to the profession in higher education, with at least 5 years in a senior academic leadership role.

  • Proven track record of successful curriculum development, faculty management, and academic program assessment.

  • Experience with accreditation processes and compliance with regulatory standards

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively present information to various stakeholders.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

  • Collaborative approach to leadership and teamwork.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
