Under the direction of the Event Administrator and the Races & Events Manager (or the designated assistants), the 'Volunteer Coordinator' helps to execute events. This employee will assist the set-up and execution of registration, awards, and other event activities as needed per event. The 'Volunteer Coordinator' will work closely with all departments throughout the Resort, including (but not limited to): Facilities, Marketing, Accounting, Retail, IT, Grounds, Electricians, Village, Sign Shop, Food & Beverage, etc. They will coordinate volunteers for events, including: fundraising events, alpine racing events, freestyle skiing events, snowboard events and bike races. These events will also include sanctioned international, national, divisional, collegiate, high school, corporate, private and club events. This job will require extensive time in the office and requires and a thorough background using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and PC usage. This job will also require the individual to have the ability to ski on Black Diamond terrain. This is a job for a person that is hard working and works well with people. The 'Volunteer Coordinator' will follow all Winter Park policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Keep an accurate and up-to-date event schedule for the Competition Center & Resort to ensure all events are supported

  • Work closely with the Competition Center Events Manager, the Event Administrator and Marketing Events Manager to coordinate set-up, tear-down, and execution of events

  • Assisting with exhibitor load-in and breakdown

  • Assist Public Safety in emergency situations at the events

  • Install signs and banners for events as directed

  • Recruit Volunteers through email blasts, website, and other avenues

  • Prepare and Maintain tools and equipment for volunteers, including: volunteer vests/identifiable uniform pieces, clipboards, stop watches, gatekeeper cards, hand timer sheets, start/finish referee reports and any other pertinent equipment based on their pre-determined role

  • Establish meeting times for sets of volunteers and link them to the correct position leader

  • Set a lead and work with them to establish linking volunteers to meet the them and train them into their position

  • Must have the ability to work independently with little supervision

  • Inform management of any potential problems with employees, volunteers, guests, sponsors, and vendors

  • Attend any relevant meeting for events based on event manager's request

Other Duties:

  • Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests and other employees

  • Report and/or correct unsafe conditions regarding equipment and area of work, or elsewhere on the area

  • Promote area cleanliness

  • Keep work area neat

  • Perform other duties as directed

  • Responsible for all computer operating systems including but not limited to software updates and applicable training as needed

  • Complete paperwork to comply with current laws

  • Retain the responsibility of accuracy of their business records

  • Enforce athlete code-of-conduct and hold self, staff, and athletes to the highest standard of behavior

  • Address any breach of conduct immediately and inform/involve other staff members as necessary

  • Follow procedural guidelines and training programs to meet/exceed expectations

  • Will drive snowmobiles on the mountain if necessary - resort approved training is required

  • Implements radio sign out for each event and keeps radio records

  • Hang banners and or signage as needed for events

  • Must wear designated uniform or workplace appropriate professional attire at all times while skiing or during scheduled work hours

  • Must wear radio or have radio turned onto appropriate channel at all times during working hours

  • Maintain and have event radios serviced as needed

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Average or above skiing/boarding ability

  • Valid Colorado driver's license and clean driving record - (May be Required to drive snowmobile)

  • Computer skills including work with a PC and Microsoft Office applications

  • Must own comfortable skis and ski boots (may be required to spend long days on the hill)

  • Is honest and demonstrates integrity

  • Is able to manage confidential information

  • Is organized and capable of performing multiple tasks

  • Strong communication with internal communication lead along with multiple governing organizations throughout Competition Center disciplines

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Office Environment:

  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position a minimum of 25 pounds on an occasional basis

  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis

  • Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices and basic office equipment on a constant basis

  • Ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis

Mountain Environment:

  • Excellent physical condition. Must be able to work long hours (occasional days may require 12 or more hours) including time in possible inclement and sub-freezing temperatures

  • Must be able to ski expert terrain carrying additional equipment (race gates, fencing, race equipment if needed)

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. if needed

  • Withstand physical exertion at elevations around 11,000 ft above sea level

  • The primary physical environment in which this position may work outdoors may include a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc.

  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job may be considered high, with possibility of frequent lifting a weight of 25 pounds throughout the day

  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain, potentially with heavy or awkward tools or equipment

  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultraviolet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. POSITION SUMMARY: Monitor and protect Winter Park Resort assets in excess of $200,000,000 through physical inspection, transfer of monies in excess of $10,000,000 annually, interpretation of guidelines as set forth by management, problem solving of situations dealing with our guests, employees, and company assets whether it be social or emergency basis. Follow Winter Park Resorts Handbook consistently ESSENTIAL DUTIES: * Protect Winter Park Resort assets by transferring deposits and handling change orders area wide; monitoring buildings and vehicles; filling token machines, collecting monies from seasonal lockers, token lockers and gate cards in an un-armed capacity * Manage and assist with 24 hour building access for guests and employees using keys, card access, alarm and door codes. * Assist Traffic Control by enforcing traffic regulations, assisting with jump starts, lock-outs and towing during and after hours. * Assist our guest by addressing complaints and problems (in mostly stressful situations). Provide information, find lost people, solve ski equipment mix-ups to achieve a 70% return rate, file ski theft reports, give refunds, assist with coin operated machine problems, handle Lost and Found after hours and during the off season and administer Seasonal Locker program. * Monitor snow fall and make calls for snow removal, monitor and patrol buildings, vehicle and foot traffic areas.
