POSITION TITLE: SCHOOL VOLUNTEER

WHO MAY SERVE AS A SCHOOL VOLUNTEER?

School volunteers may be parents, community members, senior citizens or upper grade students who augment and complement the educational program. Volunteers can be utilized in a variety of situations in schools, ranging from one time only to monthly, weekly or daily commitments. They may provide tutorial help, monitor lunchrooms, staff libraries and supervise playgrounds. Volunteers assist the classroom teacher, the school nurse or the clerical staff. They may make telephone calls, enter data, type or file. They might share a special skill, occupation or talent with the students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Availability, dependability,reliability, friendliness and flexibility.

  • Awareness of and willingness to follow any school district or state-mandated criteria regarding health and background checks.

  • Special talents or abilities that help to enrich the school program.

  • Recognition that accepting an assignment is a serious commitment.

  • Strict confidentiality regarding students and school personnel .

  • Awareness of the ethical and legal responsibilities involving the privacy of students' records.

  • A desire and interest in working with children and youth.

  • A willingness to learn and to follow directions

RECOMMENDED ACTION

  • Attend and participate in orientation and training, as necessary.

Overview The Patient Access Manager (PAM) will implement strategies in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Patient Access Goals: * Connect patients with LLS services within three months of diagnosis; * Provide ongoing support, education, and access to quality care for patients and caregivers; * Build volunteer capacity to connect more patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals with LLS; introduce them to our services; and engage them in a lasting relationship with LLS. The PAM will provide and coordinate information, services, and outreach to patients, their caregivers, survivors, and healthcare professionals within their coverage areas. This role will be a key mission "expert" for the chapter(s) for which he or she is responsible. Reports To: Director of Patient Access or Senior Patient Access Manager Additional Position InformationThis role will cover Arizona, Southern Nevada and Utah. Responsibilities * Create and maintain deep engagement with, and support for, patients throughout their cancer journey, providing ongoing support, education and access to quality care; * Promote Information Specialists in LLS's Information Resource Center as an essential point of initial contact, inside and outside of LLS, for disease, treatment and support information. * Develop and support a strong patient access volunteer infrastructure to help implement patient access strategies; identify volunteer opportunities to better reach underserved communities through provider and community outreach; * Build mission committees with local oncology professionals and key volunteers to cultivate relationships with LLS Chapters and to assist with patient outreach and events. Provide ongoing communication about patient access strategies and goals to internal and external stakeholders; * Conduct community-based patient education programs in select markets and underserved areas; * Partner with campaign and donor development to provide information about the LLS mission to internal and external stakeholders, including staff, potential volunteers, individual donors and corporate funders; * Engage patients, caregivers, and health care professionals in campaign, donor development and mission-related activities; * Partner with advocacy and campaign staff to identify advocates and patient stories and maintain engagement in policy initiatives; * Collaborate and partner with internal stakeholders including Executive Directors, Patient Access Managers, Volunteer Development Managers, Campaign, Chapter and Home Office staff to ensure joint planning, mutually beneficial support, and effective advancement toward LLS's overarching goals and strategies; * Ongoing management of budgeted resources; * Ongoing assessment of the education, resource, and service needs of patients and providers in the chapter area; * Timely compliance with all reporting requirements; * Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Requirements: * BA or BS; advanced degree or equivalent experience a plus * Experience developing and managing volunteers preferred * 3-7 years of progressively responsible related experience * Health education background preferred Position Requirements: * Experience and skills in problem solving, relationship and network building, and educational programming * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be able to articulate the LLS Mission (Research, Patient & Professional Programs, Advocacy/Policy) to a wide audience * Understanding of health care delivery systems * Experience working with oncology patients preferred * Ability to build, leverage, and maintain community relationships * Strong problem-solving, priority-setting and project management skills * Ability to work independently, thrive under pressure and perform multiple tasks * Broad cultural competency * Proven ability to conceptualize and articulate science-based policy goals * Experience working in a matrix environment a plus * Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office required Physical Demands & Work Environment: * Must reside within the chapter area(s) he or she manages * Position may require 25% - 30% daytime travel; night and weekend work may be required * Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations * Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations DisclaimerThe statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees, and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of employees.
