Job Summary

The Voice Technician I should have a basic understanding of Voice Network functions such as SS7 signaling or SIP protocols for Soft Switch or Circuit Switch Voice Platforms. Performs tasks associated with the maintenance and installation and change of company voice network.

With a beginning level understanding of telecommunications, the Voice Technician 1 will be responsible for effective communication via phone, email and in system notes/orders. Have a working knowledge of Windows operating systems is expected.

Job Description

Essential Duties

Quickly learns to efficiently install, change and repair services on the network. Coordinate and perform low to mid-level migrations.

Provides accurate and consistent customer communication during established intervals using phone, email, and ticketing notes.

Escalates, for higher order support, to technical leadership and Management.

Operate in multiple systems and databases as required.

Works with internal peer teams to assist with customer trouble resolution.


Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
0-2 years of college or technical school in electronics or telecommunications preferred

Entry level experience and/or knowledge of at least one of the three major technical disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7) and TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols)

Strong analytical skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to effectively prioritize workload

Resourceful, innovative, and creative

Ability to work extra hours as needed

Work in a fast-paced and ever-changing 24x7 environment, work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays

Must be willing to work on call via pager and/or cell phone, including weekends or holidays to support the operations staff

This full-time, non-exempt position is generally scheduled 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and will require additional hours for on-call and emergency response. Senior Utilities Mapping/GIS Technician Salary Range: $26.05/hr - $34.80/hr Senior Utilities Mapping/GIS Technician Hiring Range: $26.05/hr - $30.43/hr or Utilities Mapping/GIS Technician Salary Range: $19.65/hr - $27.35/hr Utilities Mapping/GIS Technician Hiring Range: $19.65/hr - $23.50/hr The incumbent performs technical work in creating, implementing, updating Broomfield's Utility system mapping and consists of the highest level of semi-skilled and skilled work in the maintenance of the City and County of Broomfield's water distribution and wastewater collection system. His/her primary responsibilities include performing a variety of complex and non-routine tasks related to the City and County's water distribution and wastewater collection system function and providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public. The incumbent exemplifies the characteristics of a collaborative, innovative and resilient work culture and along with the leadership team, models the appropriate behavior to create and maintain a resilient work culture within the department. The incumbent provides holistic services to the public by seeking ways to integrate programs or services provided by other departments, divisions and agencies. General Duties: Develops and maintains a Geographic Information System (GIS) for Broomfield Utilities. Coordinates GIS needs for Broomfield's Utilities with the city-wide GIS program. Utilizes GIS, Global Positioning System (GPS), photo editing and MS Office software to create requested products in a standardized format to be plotted, printed, exported or published to the web. Creates data through research and compiles from multiple resources including City and County of Broomfield records, Utility maps and construction drawings. This position maintains geographic data of Broomfield's Utilities in the Enterprise GIS database and is proficient with the ESRI ArcGIS software suite. Actively keeps current with new GIS and GPS technology. Operates a computer, including an Apple iPad, and a Trimble GPS unit. Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance duties of utility system in a lead worker capacity including cleaning and inspecting main sewer lines in accordance with schedule; responding to water main breaks or sewer back-ups and repairing utility systems; determining the location of utility lines prior to excavation; identifying problem areas within utility system and implementing actions to correct problem areas; and responding to customer concerns and complaints. Provides instruction and participates in the installation and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection lines and facilities, clearing of line obstructions and repair of water/sewer line breaks. Provides instruction and participates in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Water Booster Stations, Wastewater Lift Stations, and Pressure Regulator Valves chemical handling for water disinfecting and wet well treatment. Provides instruction and participates in the installation and replacement of water meters. Inspects and performs complex maintenance and cleaning work on various system components such as manholes, valves, valve boxes, hydrants, manholes, wet wells, booster pumps, and sewer lift stations. Inspects installation of sewer and water service lines by private contractors to insure conformance to written City and County of Broomfield's specifications. Maintains a variety of records relating to inventory, maintenance, construction, and inspections. Prepares requests for new equipment, materials, and supplies. Responds to complaints from the public regarding utility systems conditions. Ensures that problems are corrected in a timely and effective manner. Operates construction and maintenance equipment used in the department (such as pick-up trucks, tractors, loaders, dump trucks, backhoe, jet truck, utility truck, snow blowers, gas analyzers, shovels, pick-ax, sledge hammers, and hand tools); performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on equipment; assists in major maintenance and repairs to division equipment; and makes modifications to existing equipment for adaptation to department's needs as required. Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to appropriate division. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Trains lower-level personnel in the operation of and preventive maintenance on equipment. Provides back-up coverage in the operation of snowplows during inclement weather. Acts as troubleshooter to resolve problems within particular area of assignment. Qualifications for Utilities Mapping/GIS Technician - Training- High school graduation or GED equivalent Experience - Assignment to Water Distribution - Minimum of one year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of water distribution lines and facilities. Assignment to Wastewater Collection - Minimum of one year of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection lines and facilities. OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be at least 18 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. Within six months of employment date, the successful candidate must obtain a valid Commercial Driver's license Class B. Once the new employee has obtained his/her Commercial Driver's license, the license, the DOT physical card, and a safe driving record must be maintained for continued employment.
