Position Summary

As a Vocational Therapist, you are responsible for developing and implementing a diversified Therapeutic Work Program (TWP) in conjunction with other employing areas, while integrating the patients' treatment goals. Your responsibilities will include:

  • assessing the needs and goals of the patients and developing programming based on their needs.
  • participating as an active member of the multidisciplinary team including collaborating and consulting as needed.
  • providing training and direction to therapy assistants, students, and other staff as needed.
  • developing a curriculum and implementing programming in the following areas: pre-vocational training, vocational soft skills essential for employment, and vocational education.
  • providing general or direct supervision of patient workers during special projects and other areas such as custodial, greenhouse, or patient work room.

Salary Information

  • The starting pay for the Therapist is between $27.00 - $30.04 per hour (approximately $56,100-$62,400 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 11/05.

  • The starting pay for the Senior level is between $30.50 - $35.50 per hour (approximately $63,400-$73,800 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 11/04.

  • A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

  • All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SRSTC or medical personnel approved by the facility after to their start date.

  • All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

  • DHS does not sponsor work visas for these positions, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

At a minimum, you'll need the following:

  • Experience, education, or training providing services in a Vocational Therapy Program or sheltered workshop and setting up work experiences for patients or clients.

  • Experience, education, or training working with individuals diagnosed with a mental illness, cognitive deficits, sex offenders, or those incarcerated.

  • Experience working in a treatment facility, community-based treatment program, or correctional facility.

It'd be great if you also have at least one of the following:

  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Educational degree, license, or certification in Vocational Rehabilitation or a Human Services related degree.

  • Experience developing and implementing vocational "soft skills" training (e.g., completing applications, interview skills, resume writing, etc.) or experience with community re-entry programming.

  • Experience assessing the needs of patients, clients or inmates for their involvement in a vocational program.

  • Experience developing or writing vocational goals and objectives.
