FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Starting Rate: $21.00 per hour

Location: 920 Harlem Road, Buffalo, NY 14224 Vocational Specialists assist RAS participants with job seeking skills, resume writing, interviewing skills, job retention, etc

The Vocational Specialist helps residents to seek and develop themselves for competitive job opportunities in the community. The Vocational Specialist will facilitate the successful utilization of job readiness training and job retention services for residents of RAS and will build new relationships with potential employers in the community.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists with linkage to volunteering and/or education

• Assists with linkage to independent/supportive housing upon program completion

• Teaches job-seeking and job-retention skills

• Assists participants in obtaining and maintaining competitive employment that matches their skills and interests

• Engages with community employers

• Provides unlimited support/coaching to participants to assist them in achieving the outcome of employment success

• Assist participants with resume writing, interview skills, applicable aptitude tests, and job searching

• Assist/Job Coach participants onsite at their place of employment

• Provides benefits counseling

• Provides participants with accurate information regarding disclosure to employers

• Completes vocational assessment and updates participant profile on a regular basis.

• Completes weekly and monthly performance indicators and records data

• Provides unlimited support for follow along employment services

• Acts as a liaison between employer and participant as needed

• Must maintain valid vehicle inspection, registration, and insurance cards and send updated copies to Human Resources upon expiration.

• Completes all trainings required by the agency.

• Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree in relevant educational, business, communication, vocational or human services and 1 year of experience -OR- Associate Degree with relevant educational, business, communication, vocational or human services and 2 years of experience.

• Requires basic knowledge of psychiatric rehabilitation, vocational development, assessment, and placement techniques.

• Must have excellent communication, presentation, and networking skills.

• Minimum proficiency with Windows based software applications and basic office equipment (copiers, scanners, phones) required.

• Must be goal oriented, organized, and able to work effectively and efficiently with autonomy.

• Must have a working familiarity with community resources.

• Valid NYS Driver's License.

• Must have accredited NYS Defensive Driving course; or obtain within 15 days of hire and send certification of completion to Human Resources.

• Must maintain active NYS Defensive Driving course every 3 years and send a copy of the new certification of completion upon expiration.
