  • The Vocational Rehabilitation Career Coach is a five-year grant supported position finishing its third year, with the possibility of continued grant support in the future.

JOB SUMMARY

The Vocational Rehabilitation Career Coach serves students eligible for KCC's Inclusive Career Advancement Program (ICAP). This position supports students as they access GED, second language learning support, Career Technical, and short-term training programs leading to economic self-sufficiency. The ICAP program will leverage Oregon's current statewide network of career pathway services to advance educational and economic equity for people with disabilities through intentional outreach and the inclusion of marginalized communities. The primary responsibility of the Vocational Rehabilitation Career Coach is to work directly with eligible students to develop individualized academic/career plans that strengthen skills for employability. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling students for career readiness and employability workshops; maintaining contact with program participants throughout each academic term; tracking student benefits; and fostering an environment that facilitates student success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support

  • Monitor persistence towards transition and completion by making frequent contact and developing rapport.

  • Meet with participants on a regular basis; monitor progress of each student on caseload; problem-solve and make appropriate referrals; serve as a liaison and advocate for students.

  • Assist participants in accessing concrete supports such as: disability accommodations, SNAP, child-care, housing, and transportation.

  • Support ICAP outreach efforts through the college service district.

  • Participate in the annual planning process and evaluation of program services.

  • Coordinate with internal and external community partners to provide services.

  • Attend project staff meetings and engage in the planning and evaluation of coaching/support strategies and other activities related to ICAP.

  • Collaboration with Financial Aid, Advisors, Student Services, Disabilities Specialist, and others on campus.

  • Coordinate participant participation in various programs, activities, and services designed to prepare them for re-entry to the workforce.

  • Integrate work into Career Pathways (CP), Pathways to Opportunity (PTO), and SNAP Training and Education Program (STEP) efforts, connecting students as appropriate.

  • Collaborate with local partners regarding local implementation of ICAP (Inclusive Career Advancement Program).

  • Prepare eligible participants to obtain employment, gain promotion at current employment, and/or reduce reliance on public assistance funds.

Record Keeping

  • Collect and enter appropriate participant data into databases for local, state, and federal reporting. Maintain records, generate reports, enter data, and participate in trainings, meetings, and conference calls.

  • Collect data and produce reports to turn into supervisor.

  • Document and report on grant outcomes.

  • Track regular contacts with students.

  • Develop knowledge of current job market to identify workforce needs in accordance with CP and PTO programs

Program Outreach

  • Develop initial Individual Success Plan with each ICAP student, addressing short- and long-term academic, training, and career goals. Connect students in need with advising, tutoring, and supplemental instruction.

  • Provide academic, career, and financial aid coaching to students in GED, ESOL, Career Technical, Integrated Education and Training, and/or Career Pathways programs regarding college programs, financial aid, admissions, registration, student success resources, community resources and services, and strategies for success.

  • Serve as an advocate for participants in their efforts to navigate campus and overcome institutional or personal barriers toward degree/certification/program completion.

  • Work directly with Admissions, Advising, College Access Programs, and other student service team members to facilitate enrollment and retention of students requiring additional support.

  • Maintain relationships with other Vocational Rehab providers in the district and attend regular community partner meetings.

  • Receives, screens, and processes referrals from partner agencies as well as making referrals to those agencies.

  • Deliver presentations about program services, qualifications, and expectations to prospective students, community organizations, as well as internal and external partners.

  • Collaborate with Academic Development Program staff, advisors, and other college departments to create an atmosphere supportive of students and student transitions.

  • Participate in the CP and PTO community of practice with other Oregon community colleges.

  • Connect students in need with tutoring, community resources, and supplemental instruction, organize, and schedule course-specific study groups for project participants.

  • Assist ICAP participants with job search activities and refer as needed to college staff and agency partners for internships and job placement assistance.

  • Travel as needed to administer and advertise ICAP services.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves on various committees and college governance groups as assigned.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Preference for education or work experience in sociology, human services, social work or related field.

  • Experience in case management, crisis intervention, employment services, recruitment, training programs, social work or related experience a plus.

  • Student services experience in the areas of advising, testing, financial aid, or otherwise.

  • Experience in an educational setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally with groups and/or individuals, in a positive, empathetic and professional manner.

  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. Sensitivity to barriers faced by students from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals with diverse physical or mental disabilities.

  • Ability to follow established procedures and work independently to accomplish those procedures.

  • Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including travel, various hours and possible weekends/evenings, as well as workdays at other locations.

  • Ability to write and communicate at a professional level utilizing a high level of computer skills sufficient to use software such as word processing, spreadsheets and data bases to produce correspondence, documents and reports as required by the position.

  • Ability to travel at various times and distances.

  • Ability to interact with regional industry to address needs of the program and the ability to collaborate successfully with federal, state and local partners in education, workforce and industry.

  • Strict adherence and understanding of Federal, State, and Community College confidentiality rules and regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, stooping, and bending (up to 20 lbs.).

  • Frequently moving from stationary to sitting positions and from standing to walking.

Qualifications
