A Day in the Life of a Systems Engineer:
Perform systems engineering infrastructure and integration tasks related to development and systems sustainment. Responsibilities include design, documentation, project planning, communication, configuration, testing, implementation, mentoring, tuning, and level 3 systems support. The systems engineering team is a project focused group with accountability for delivering sound technical solutions while meeting project milestones for deliverables. This position requires strong technical skills as well as the ability to successfully document and communicate results to technical and non-technical staff.
In depth knowledge on VMware ESX / vSphere / vRealize Suite / Horizon Suite / Site Recovery Manager
Collaborate with team members across the business to offer expertise and assistance in providing recommendations for client issues
Mentor system operation engineers across multiple platforms such as VMware, Windows, Linux and Storage
Monitor and maintain system configurations to ensure security data integrity of virtual and multiple operating system platforms
Familiarity with software development and network operations concepts and methodologies
Proven experience creating and documenting solutions to meet business needs
Support rapid solution implementations and customer engagements related to IT infrastructure
Monitoring, testing and deploying hardware/software performance and lifecycle change
Ensure the availability, reliability, scalability, and manageability of the infrastructure environment
Oversees and implements system upgrade and patching strategies
Initiates and implements improvements in all areas of the infrastructure environment
Performs system capacity analysis and planning to ensure storage management system operation and resource utilization optimization
Share functional expertise by effectively documenting work processes and procedures
Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and take responsibility for those issues through resolution
Proactively seek out new training initiatives and alternative ways that can expand one's functional expertise
Ensure test regions are available for all systems and applications to be used by system programmers and operations personnel
Maintain good housekeeping and a safe working environment in the Server Room and associated storage areas
Perform other duties as assigned
What can you bring to Meridian:
Bachelor's degree in computer related area is required.
Certification in IT related discipline is required
ITIL Foundations preferred
Minimum of four (3) to six (5) years of experience in a similar position is required
3+ years of experience working with Windows Server environments
3+ years of hands on experience in design and deployment of VMware and storage infrastructure
Experience working in medium to large data centers is required.
Working knowledge of storage and back-up/recovery practices and procedures
Working experience with Business Continuity and Disaster Recover
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the storage field
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures related to Project Management. Specifically defining milestones, tracking progress, and reporting project status
In depth experience with VMware hosts, vCenter Server and VMs
Knowledge of Windows & Linux best practices
Installation, configuration, and maintenance of storage area networks
Scripting ability, especially using shell, Python and PowerShell
Excellent troubleshooting and technical documentation skills
Technical documentation skills
