  • The Material Planning Manager is responsible for efficient and effective procurement and planning of component inventory to support the customer's operations up to the point of consumption and replenishment.

  • This position provides operational and project support for supply chain activities, with a major focus on material management, quality management, logistics, and inventory analysis.

  • This role interacts with staff at all levels to define and carry out supply management tasks, while identifying efficiencies to improve service levels. This position completes operational tasks in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements, standard operating policies/procedures, and applicable laws.

Essential Functions- Roles/Responsibilities

  • Interface with customer Planning and Scheduling personnel to understand upcoming fill schedules and component requirements, to provide on-time component availability for the customer's schedule.

  • Procure materials from external vendors, and coordinate transfer of materials from internal vendors and warehouse to be onsite 24 hours in advance of the scheduled production run. Actively mediate supply and transportation issues to ensure 24/5 coverage of materials at the customer's fill plant.

  • Provide forecasting data to suppliers for suppliers' raw material and labor scheduling. Communicate major business developments to suppliers as needed. Participate in monthly or quarterly business review meetings with key customer and supplier contacts.

  • Communicate critical component shortages to customer Planning and Packaging teams, with recovery plan and/or alternative component availability. Investigate, analyze, and provide corrective actions for component-related fill line downtime or delays.

  • Manage safety stock program for critical components. Place purchase orders or communicate requirements to suppliers based on a weekly inventory review. Analyze components on a semi-annual basis for changes to product mix in the safety stock program.

  • Upon notification from customer, manage process to transition to new component versions. Coordinate the setup of new part numbers and procurement and delivery of new components. Manage transition between old and new materials, working to minimize excess stranded materials.

  • Conduct quarterly review of slow-moving inventory. Investigate status of slow-moving inventory, and support activities to write off and dispose of obsolete items.

  • Contribute to overall team improvement by identifying areas for continuous improvement, and participating in or leading projects to improve processes.

  • Cross-train with other VMI team members to ensure critical task coverage during absences and vacations.

  • Participate in all Altium- and customer-assigned safety trainings, communications, and meetings.

  • Adhere to Altium or customer requirements for safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Five years of work experience in managing materials for a manufacturing plant.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools, such as problem-solving, root cause analysis, LEAN/SixSigma principles.

  • Proficient in using Microsoft programs. High degree of proficiency in Excel, including knowledge of: formulas, filtering, pivot tables, graphing, and macro development.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with working in JD Edwards ERP system.

  • Certification or advanced degree with a concentration in Supply Chain, Business, or other related field.
