Vivion Family Home Landscape Technician - Full Time

JOB PURPOSE

The cultivation, care, and enhancement of the outdoor spaces at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary Vivion Family Home (VFH) providing a welcoming and safe environment for Midwestern's sitting president, his family, guests, and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform routine lawn maintenance, including mowing, edging, aerating, and fertilizing.

• Design and implement new landscape features, such as flower beds, hedges, and water elements.

• Maintain existing garden areas, including container gardens, ensuring healthy plant growth and aesthetically pleasing arrangements.

• Plant and maintain ornamental grasses, shrubbery, and flowers on a seasonal basis.

• Trim and weed multiple flower beds and containers.

• Research plants and products used at the VFH and on the Midwestern campus.

• Diagnose and treat plant diseases and pests.

• Collaborate with the Vivion Home House Manager to develop landscaping plans aligning with the president's vision and budget.

• Manage irrigation systems to ensure adequate hydration of all plant life.

• Prune trees to promote healthy development and to mitigate the risk of damage to adjacent structures or injury to individuals.

• Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf removal in the fall, and snow and ice removal in the winter.

• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment safely and efficiently.

• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of all outdoor spaces, including patios, walkways, and recreational areas.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

Include, but not limited to:

• Christian with high integrity, actively pursuing a relationship with God.

• Proven experience in landscaping or groundskeeping.

• Knowledge of horticulture, including plant identification, disease management, and soil science.

• Ability to operate landscaping equipment, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers.

• Creative vision and design skills for landscaping projects.

• Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

• Able to multi-task, analyze workload, and prioritize as necessary for the benefit of the VFH and the Campus Operations department.

• Must possess a strong attention to detail.

• Able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.

• Able to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.

• Must be able to work independently, as well as a part of a team.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Must possess a positive attitude.

• Must be able to show a desire and willingness to learn.

• Must be able to pass background screening, including driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Monday through Friday, 7:00a

• 3:30p.

• Off-hours work may be necessary.

• May be required to work in extreme weather conditions.

• Frequent exposure to dampness, humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuels, motor oil, solvents, and extended sunlight time.

• Campus Operation uniform shirts will be provided. Additional attire, work pants and boots, must always present a professional appearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.

• Able to lift, push, pull or move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds regularly.

• Able to climb ladders and stairs, navigate uneven terrain, and work under extreme weather conditions.

• Frequently required to bend, crawl, kneel, reach, and shovel.
