Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Vivarium Control Technician for our Animal Services Team located in Mattawan, MI.

A Vivarium Control Technician is responsible for: cleaning animal rooms, housing, and support areas focusing on serving internal customers' and Sponsors' schedule and study needs; assisting with detection of pest problems and implementation of solutions. Handling animals with care and addressing their needs is of the highest priority.

The following are minimum requirements related to the Vivarium Control Technician position.

  • HS/GED/Bachelor's degree with no experience; previous experience working with animals is

  • preferred.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.

  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.

  • Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts; sometimes on short notice.

  • Ability to work under specific time constraints.

In return, we'll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about. Job Summary A Training Associate is responsible for the instruction of technical skills for staff. This includes providing and/or coordinating technical training, conducting skill proficiency assessments, maintaining training documentation, and providing feedback to corporate training program governance representative(s) and manager of the trainees. The Training Associate position for Animal Services is responsible for providing skill development specifically for Vivarium Control and Colony Management technicians. The Training Associate will work directly within the Animal Services department and will coordinate training opportunities with the Animal Services supervisors. A successfull candidate must meet the job description requirements as well as possessing experience in husbandry skills in rodents, rabbits, canines, swine and non-human primates. Husbandry skills for the indicated species include daily observations, feeding/watering, room cleaning, animal handling, cage rotations, body weight measurement, and detailed observations as well as other fundamental animal functions. * HS/GED/Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience and, for In-life training, LAT certification, or, 3-4 relevant experience without certification. * Demonstrated proficiency in required departmental technical skills; previous training experience preferred. * Demonstrated knowledge of department processes and procedures. * Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization. * Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite. * Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system. * Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts; sometimes on short notice. * Ability to work under specific time constraints.
