The Department of Visual Arts & Media at the University of Mount Union invites applications for adjunct teaching positions in its undergraduate Art program starting fall semester 2024. These are part-time, non-tenured positions.

We are seeking vibrant MFA graduates and/or working artist with a wealth of experience in either Illustration or Photography to join our campus next academic year. As an adjunct professor or professional in residence, this role requires a creative individual who can enhance campus life through their unique qualifications, industry connections, and a passion for engaging students in exciting and meaningful ways.

Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty and professionals in residence will work primarily under direction of the Chair of the Department of Visual Arts & Media along with other Art faculty.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and teach courses in the Art program, sharing industry expertise and insights.

  • Collaborate with faculty to enhance curriculum and student learning experiences.

  • Mentor students, providing guidance on academic and career paths.

  • Cultivate relationships with professionals in relevant fields to create networking opportunities for students.

  • Stay updated on industry trends and developments to ensure curriculum relevance.

  • Provide instruction in accordance with University and Departmentally defined policies.

  • Maintain office hours and communicate with students on an ongoing basis.

  • Maintain accurate electronic records as per University, College, and School program requirements.

  • Submit all records as required.

  • Participate in training and technologies as necessary to facilitate course delivery.

  • Hires are required to complete assigned compliance training as communicated by the University.

Qualifications

  • M.F.A. in a discipline relevant to the area is preferred, but someone with a BFA and significant professional experience would also be considered.

  • Photo I (Fall 24)

  • Photo II (Spring 25)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience working in the area of specialization.

  • Previous teaching experience at the college or university level.

  • Demonstrated success in the field, such as awards, publications, or exhibitions.

  • Strong network of contacts in the relevant industry.

  • Ability to integrate technology into teaching and professional practice.

  • Knowledge of, and use of Adobe Creative Suite

  • Knowledge of, and use of Learning Management Systems (specifically D2L Brightspace).

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and the arts.

  • Online courses will be considered for exceptional candidates with previous online teaching experience.
