VISTA Assignment Objectives and Member Activities

Goal of the Project:

The goal of this project is to establish a comprehensive Internship program at HJAHC in various departments including finance, human resources, operations, clinical, dental, and media and communications. The outcome will be the creation of a skill/job training program that will improve economic opportunity for the participating interns from the greater Trenton community.

Objective of the Assignment 1: Create a survey tool to gather data from mangers, directors and supervisors about areas in which interns can work

Time Frame: Ongoing

Members serving in the AmeriCorps VISTA program serve full-time for one-year terms. They build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities. VISTAs receive a bi-weekly living allowance and upon completion of their year of service can choose to receive either the Segal education award of $6,495 or a cash stipend. Member Activities:

1. Review organizational structure and strategic goals of HJAHC.

Objective of the Assignment 2: Create a HJA orientation process specific to interns

Time Frame: Ongoing

Member Activities:

1. Review current orientation process and onboarding policies and procedures with HR Staff.

2. Meet with HR staff to discuss details of Standard Operating Procedure specific to interns.

3. Draft an Standard Operating Procedure for process specific to interns

Objective of the Assignment 3: Create a Memorandum of Understanding that will be used with local universities and colleges.

Time Frame: Ongoing

Member Activities:

1. Review Memorandum of Understanding that will be used with local universities and colleges

2. Send to identified local universities, colleges and high schools. .

Objective of the Assignment 4: Develop an internship program that includes intentional learning objectives and goals that are structured into the experience. This includes interns and supervisor surveys to assess how the internship program is working and give opportunities for improvement. Also included in this structure development of position descriptions, assessment/evaluation tools and acknowledgment programs (for interns that do well).

Time Frame: Ongoing

Member Activities:

  • Design a structure for the internship program
  • Meet with department supervisors to create learning objectives and goals specific to department.
  • Draft an assessment tool for performance of intern to discuss progress and areas of improvement.
  • Work with supervisors and managers, as well as administration ,to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for students

Objective of the Assignment 5: Create a marketing strategy for the recruiting interns.

Time Frame: Ongoing

Member Activities:

1. Draft a marketing strategy for the recruiting interns.

2. Create a formal partnership with local universities and educational programs in and around the city of Trenton including with The College of NJ and Mercer County Community college.

3. Create a list of local universities and colleges to promote internship program.

4. Draft a plan to assist marketing the services and programs through developing appropriate materials as well as advertising special events

5. Draft a proposal to assist production of program material and informational publications about internship program.

Objective of the Assignment 6: Create a social media platform for interns to share thoughts and stay connected.

Time Frame: Ongoing

Member Activities:

1. Research social media platform most accessible and used to share thoughts and stay connected.

2. Research appropriate websites and resources to support the program

Assess whether or not our current tools meet needs of our strategic plan and organizational capacity with regard to the specific programs.</p><p>3. Understand the key audiences HJAHC are trying to reach including meeting with various audiences to determine their needs and challenges and reviewing audience segmentation worksheets.</p><p>2. Host focus groups with identified key audiences to understand the communication we use to reach them and the issues and we face.</p><p>3. After focus groups are concluded with audiences write up summaries and possible outlets or solutions we can use to better reach the audience. </p><p>Notes:</p><p><strong>Objective of the Assignment 3:</strong> Communicate the HJAHC message and available programs through literature </p><p><strong>Timeframe:</strong> Ongoing</p><p><strong>Member Activities:</strong></p><ul> <li>Develop a comprehensive plan to introduce the MAT program.</li> <li>Review and continue comprehensive HEP C marketing plan.</li> <li>Develop a list of current and potential communications channels.</li> <li>Create messaging and graphics specific to audience HJAHC intends to reach within each specific program, as needed.
