VISTA Food Distribution Program Development-2024 (Year 3))
Since 1965, CAST has served low-income individuals and families on the North Fork of Long Island - an agricultural and tourism community. We are the only non-profit on the North Fork providing food and wrap-around services to help at-risk community members achieve economic security.
Our mission is to provide a safety net and promote self-sufficiency. CAST programs include a food pantry and mobile food pantry, a sharing room, benefit application assistance, and emergency assistance for rent, heat, electricity and other urgent needs. Our wrap-around services include the North Fork ParentChild+ Program, an early literacy and parenting skills program for at-risk families; a summer and afterschool program for underserved elementary students; ESL; computer, nutrition and citizenship classes; exposure to arts and culture; workforce development programs and job readiness workshops.
The CAST campus is centrally located in the Town of Southold and serves as a community resource center for underserved populations. The VISTA project will build the capacity of CAST by developing and expanding . An ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude and enjoy a fast paced, lively atmosphere. Must be comfortable communicating and networking and possess organizational skills, and basic computer skills.
VISTA members will have professional development and training opportunities. Bi-lingual Spanish is a plus. Walk to work from the newly restored, historic, onsite rental housing available to VISTAs, in the heart of quaint Southold Town, walking distance to public transportation, supermarkets, restaurants and beaches.
