Department Summary

The Counseling Program at UNT, Dallas prepares a multi-culturally competent counselor and a change agent who promotes wellness in children, adults, families, schools, and communities locally and worldwide. The Program offers two CACREP accredited master's programs: school counseling and mental health counseling. Mentored by dedicated faculty with extensive experience as licensed practitioners and in research, our students undergo authentic experiential and evidence-based training. Graduates of the UNTD Counseling program are dedicated leaders and advocates for diversity in the communities they serve.

Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of a Visiting Lecturer in the Counseling Program in September 2024.

This Visiting Lecturer position is a 9-month, non-renewable appointment with expectations of a four-course teaching load each semester. The initial one-year appointment begins September 1, 2024. The position includes teaching 12 hours (four courses) in the fall and spring semester. Additional expectations include student advisement and participation in department meetings and school meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP (The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) accredited program or equivalent program.

  • Eligible for License in Professional Counseling in the State of Texas (LPC).Proven teaching excellence in graduate instruction and demonstrated clinical competence in school counseling.

  • Documented professional counselor identity as evidenced by education, teaching, clinical experience and professional affiliations (such as American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, American School Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision).

  • Documented professional experience and competency in working with culturally diverse populations.

  • Willingness to engage in community/school university partnerships.

  • Experience with CACREP accreditation process.

  • Evidence of student oriented instruction and leadership within a collaborative environment.

  • Experience with collaborative grant development

  • Counseling skills; knowledge of statistics, diversity, and addiction

Job Duties:

  • Teach four graduate counseling courses per semester, including web-based, hybrid, and face-to-face counseling courses.

  • Courses taught may include, but are not limited to, Advanced Counseling Skills, Practicum, Internship, Marriage and Family, Sexuality Counseling, Career Counseling, Diagnosis and Treatment, Ethics, and Group Counseling.

  • Attend university, college, department, and program meetings, participate in related community based projects and participate on university service committees as appointed.

  • Participate in the evaluation of student learning outcomes.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and perform service to the university, the school, profession, and the community.

  • Advise students in a Masters level CACREP aligned (working towards CACREP) Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CHMC) program.

  • Supervise the clinical experiences of community counseling and school counseling students in both practicum and internship.
