The Department of Public Health at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for two full-time lecture/visiting assistant professor positions. The ideal candidate will have earned a master's degree (M.S.) or a doctorate (Ph.D.) in public health or a related field. The applicant should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level and a commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds. Employment would begin in August 2024 at the rank of Lecturer/visiting assistant professor, commensurate with qualifications.
Teaching responsibilities will focus on, but not limited to the following Public Health undergraduate courses:
Behavioral Theories in Public Health
Introduction to Environmental Health
Health Promotion & Program Planning
Epidemiology
Research Methods
Introduction to Global Health
Master of Public Health graduate courses:
Health Equity Principles & Practice
Ethnicity, Race, Class & Gender
Current Issues in Health Seminar
Community Based Research
Duties and responsibilities of the position include:
teach 12 credit hours per semester;
advise Public Health majors; and
participate in service activities for the Department, University, their discipline, and the community.
About the Department:
The Department of Public Health offers all levels of instruction for undergraduates and graduate students and offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences and the Master of Public Health in Health Equity degrees. The Department also offers mentored research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in a range of public health areas. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, minimizing barriers, and increasing equity and completion rates among members of different demographic groups.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have either a M.S. or a Ph. D. in public health, community health, health education, epidemiology, health sciences or a related field, experience teaching at the undergraduate level, and experience mentoring students in health sciences or related fields.
Strong commitment to teaching a full load of 24 credit hours per academic year;
Write and Speak English proficiently;
Demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students;
Commitment to academic advising and mentoring of HBCU students leading to readiness for graduate school and the workforce; and
Demonstrate ability and willingness to work collegially
