Job Description:

The Psychology Department at the State University of New York at Old Westbury is seeking applications for a PRODiG+ Fellow starting Fall 2024. PRODiG+ is focused on two goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of these candidates.

The PRODiG+ Fellowship opportunity is a two-year, post-doctoral fellowship, with a reduced teaching expectation, mentoring, research support, and professional development to assist the fellow's development as a teacher-scholar in a comprehensive university setting. It is expected that this position will transition to a renewable contract after these 2-years, based on performance and campus need.

Candidates must have or be near completion of a Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field. We are open to any area of specialty in psychology or a closely related field, but specialization in social psychology, cognitive/biological psychology, and clinical psychology are especially desired.

Candidates with a commitment to social justice and serving a diverse student population are also desired. Responsibilities include teaching core courses, such as Introduction to Psychology, research methods, and content courses in the area of specialization.

The Psychology Department is the largest major at the college, offering a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in Psychology and a Master of Science (M.S) degree in Mental Health Counseling, and is committed to faculty diversity and to the historic mission of the College to advance social justice, civic engagement, and sustainability.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.

  • Candidates applying for this position must have completed all the requirements or be on track for earning their Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field by August 2025.

  • Demonstrate an academic/scholarly track record incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) or have experience furthering DEI-related initiatives and programs and a commitment to continuing those efforts in the campus community.

  • A strong commitment to their own active research program.

  • A strong commitment to teaching/mentoring diverse student populations at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching in an institution of higher education to a student body that is diverse in terms of racial, ethnic, multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
