The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University seeks an experienced, energetic educator to join our dynamic team of faculty and staff in the Physician Assistant Studies Program. Mercy University is seeking candidates for a full-time, multiple-year track academic coordinator/assistant professor position in the Physician Assistant Studies Program.

The PA Program is seeking a knowledgeable, experienced and collaborative applicant, who, as the Academic Coordinator will work with the program director, medical director and other program faculty to ensure that courses and activities are arranged and scheduled to align with the program's course sequencing and curricular goals and enhance student success. The Academic Coordinator is an integral part of the program, who is responsible for contacting and scheduling guest lecturers for the Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine courses. The Academic Coordinator is responsible for monitoring the students' grades and academic progression through the program and, working directly with faculty and course instructors, design remediation plans for students requiring academic interventions.

The successful candidate works with program leadership to coordinate the didactic components of the program and assessment of student progress throughout the didactic phase. This person will work collaboratively with Didactic and Clinical teams facilitating the collection of data and its analysis to inform and respond to curricular decisions. The successful applicant will also carry a full faculty workload and be responsible for teaching assignments as determined by the program director.

All faculty are responsible for curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation in both didactic and clinical components of the program, student advising, developing collaborative opportunities with community partners, and contributing to interprofessional education within the School and University. Faculty play a prominent role in the program's ongoing self-study process. Faculty are expected to serve on University, School and Program committees and participating in scholarly activities.

Faculty are encouraged to participate in professional development activities. Candidates with teaching experience should be familiar with the innovative use of technology in the classroom. Candidates must have a commitment to working in a multicultural setting. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

  • Prior teaching experience in a Physician Assistant Program or medical school.

  • Innovative use of educational technology and familiarity with online educational delivery tools such as Blackboard.

  • Experience as a clinically practicing PA required. Minimum of 3 years preferred. Current NCCPA certification, and licensure or eligibility for Physician Assistant licensure in New York State.

  • Additional Master's degree or Doctorate Degree in an area related to requirements of the position.

  • Experience in teaching, research, inter-professional education and incorporating technology into teaching and professional practice is highly desirable.

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies in progress. A Master's degree or PhD in a related field will also be considered.

    Candidates that are physician assistants must have a Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited PA Program or a Master's degree in progress, current NCCPA certification, and licensure or eligibility for Physician Assistant licensure in New York State. Preference will be given to those applicants who are physician assistants with a completed Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies and those applicants with a Master's degree in progress who also possess extensive clinical experience.

  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies.

Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.

Mercy University promotes a community campus environment. As a result, employment is limited to the following states:

New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Applicants outside of those states or the USA will be required to relocate. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible moves.

The Mercy University Retirement Plan is comprised of two components:

Deferred Compensation Plan

All eligible employees may contribute to the Deferred Compensation Plan on a pre-tax basis upon joining the University.

Defined Contribution Plan

Eligible employees are enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan after two (2) years of full-time employment at Mercy University and receive a semi-monthly contribution from the College, based on age and salary. If an employee is under age 36, they will receive a contribution of 3.3% of their annual salary each pay period. If an employee is age 36 or older, they will receive a contribution of 9% of their annual salary each pay period.

If employed full-time for two (2) or more consecutive years by another institution(s) of higher education (college or university), without an intervening break in service within the last twelve (12) months prior to employment before joining Mercy, please submit a waiting period waiver form to Office of Human Resources. The Defined Contribution will begin as of the first day of the month following receipt of the completed waiver form.
