Summary: The Biology Department in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is seeking applications for three full-time, one academic year (approximately 9 month) teaching positions, renewable for up to three years.

We seek candidates with excellent communication and interpersonal skills that have demonstrated success in supporting diversity through inclusive student-centered teaching. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates from underrepresented groups, and from candidates who have interest and/or experience in working with diverse student and community populations.

Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Masters degree or higher in a relevant field in Biology

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness and commitment to experiential and high-impact teaching practices.

  • Experience in or demonstrated understand ding of social justice education and/or initiatives, and/or inclusion, diversity, and/or intercultural training.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong organismal background and ability to teach general biology to majors and/or nonmajors

  • Ability to teach in both face-to-face and online environments

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting diversity among students, faculty, and communities

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12 credits each semester

  • Ability to teach in more than one of the following areas:

  • BIO 104

  • Biology for the 21st Century (Nonmajors)
  • BIO 120
  • General Biology I (Cellular Biology and Genetics)
  • BIO 121
  • General Biology II (Organisms, Ecology and Evolution)
  • BIO 215 - Ecology

  • Genetics Courses

  • Organismal Courses (both plant and animal) - for example, Plant Ecology, Plant Identification and Natural History, Ornithology, Natural History of Vertebrates, or other plant and animal courses related to candidate's area of expertise.

Salary: $50,000

Department/College: The Biology Department at Grand Valley State University has undergraduate degree-granting programs in Biology, Natural Resource and Environmental Management, Wildlife Biology and Fisheries and Aquatic Science, and a Masters Degree Program in Biology.
