Loyola Law School's Collateral Consequences of Conviction Justice Project (CCCJP) is a grant-funded law school clinic that operates year-round to provide free legal representation, legal consultations, and referrals for individuals with past criminal justice involvement to assist them in navigating and overcoming collateral consequences of conviction.

The CCCJP Clinic provides direct legal representation to remove barriers to employment, education and housing, including among others:

  • Petitions for dismissal (expungements) for convictions incurred in California

  • Eligible felony reductions

  • Arrest record sealing

  • State licensing board applications and appeals

  • Vacating convictions for immigration purposes (PC 1473.7)

  • Driver's license reinstatement support

  • Certificates of rehabilitation and gubernatorial pardons

  • Proposition 47 petitions

  • Sealing juvenile records

The CCCJP Clinic is taught each Fall and Spring semester. In the course, students learn about the pervasive, negative collateral consequences that convictions have on formerly incarcerated community members, and under the supervision of the Clinic Director, conduct re-entry legal services for clients of the CCCJP.

CCCJP is housed within the Law School's Center for Juvenile Law & Policy, a part of the Loyola Social Justice Law Clinic (LSJLC), which aggregates Loyola's clinics.

The CCCJP Director will teach and supervise law students enrolled in the CCCJP clinical course in providing direct representation in re-entry matters, supervise a full-time legal fellow assigned to the project, and conduct client intake, consultations, and legal representation in the types of matters listed above. The CCCJP Director will also be responsible for managing the reporting requirements of the California State grant that supports the CCCJP's work, which has recently been renewed through May 2027. The Director will collaborate with the Executive Director of the CJLP and the LSJLC Executive Director to integrate the CCCJP's activities within the broader LLS community and mission, and on administrative, compliance, and grant responsibilities.
