The School of Social Welfare, University at Albany is seeking applicants for a PRODiG+ Visiting Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Fellowship to support our diverse population of social welfare students and professionals. The Fellowship is for two years, with a teaching obligation of one course per semester in the Fellow's research specialization. The area of specialization should fall into the strengths of the SSW: community engaged participatory methodology and community-based, interdisciplinary implementation science. The Visiting Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Associate will work with school faculty to advance their personal research portfolio with journal publications in social welfare/social work and related fields (i.e., child welfare, aging, health, policy).

Primary Responsibilities:

Research

Continuing efforts on existing and new research opportunities are expected, resulting in acceptance of at least one top tier publication during the position. The Visiting Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Associate will participate in relevant University Research Center (i.e., Institute for Social & Health Equity, Center for Healthy Aging, Global Center for AI & Mental Health, Center for Human Services Research) activities and work with SSW senior faculty on the development of their personal research agenda.

The Visiting Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Associate will also collaborate with faculty across the campus affiliated with the SSW as well as the PhD program in social welfare. These combined faculties conduct qualitative and quantitative research across a broad spectrum of domains.

Teaching

The Visiting Assistant Professor/Postdoctoral Associate will teach foundation courses in micro and macro social work practice equivalent to a half-time academic load. The assignment will be part of our MSW or undergraduate (BSW, social welfare minor, social justice minor) teaching. Face-to-face teaching is the expected modality on campus. The associate will be mentored by experienced faculty and will have access to campus resources for skill development.

The Fellowship is part of the SUNY-wide PRODiG+ initiative which aims to: 1) increase the system's number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion and 2) strengthen the retention and support for these faculty. Through the PRODiG+ program, SUNY expects to generate a pipeline of over 400 postdoctoral fellows to enter tenure-track faculty positions over the next 10 years. Eligible candidates should demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community.

Qualifications:

• Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.

• MSW from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

• PhD in a relevant field (social work, social welfare, or related field) from an accredited institution completed prior to start date.

• Established record in conference or journal publications.

• Experience with diverse student populations.

• Experience teaching and/or developing course.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community

• Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preference will be given to candidates who are:

• Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows.

• From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first- generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.
