This term appointment is titled either Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance or Teaching Artist in Residence and will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications and chosen focus.

The preferred candidate is an accomplished stage performer, scholar, and teacher specializing in the practice of a traditional, codified modern dance technique (e.g., Horton, Limón, Graham, or Dunham) or classical ballet technique, with a strong foundation in somatic practices. Candidates whose approaches also include other traditions or methods are encouraged to apply.

The desired candidate is a teaching artist who will bring technical expertise and will actively contribute to the scholarly and creative practice within the Palladino School of Dance. In addition, our new colleague will have a commitment to culturally responsive teaching, promoting areas of inclusion, intercultural communication, and advancing diversity.

Potential course assignments will include an array of studio technique courses in the current curriculum, spanning intermediate through advanced levels of dance technique and related coursework. The candidate will include experiential learning and active engagement in the classroom, helping to equip students seeking careers in stage performance and related fields with key professional skills.

Applications may be considered until the position is filled; however, review of applications will begin immediately.

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in dance performance and/or teaching.

  • Demonstrated expertise in a codified modern dance technique (e.g., Graham, Horton, Limón) or classical ballet technique (e.g., Vaganova, Cecchetti, Bournonville, RAD).

  • A secondary area of teaching expertise in Afro-diasporic dance forms, dance science, dance composition, dance pedagogy, or screen dance is preferred.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
