Visiting Assistant Professor, Modern Hebrew and Jewish Studies

Job Summary:

The Muhlenberg College Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures invites applications for a 2-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Modern Hebrew and Jewish Studies, beginning fall 2024. Native/near native fluency required with demonstrated teaching competence in Hebrew Language and expertise in Modern Hebrew, Jewish Studies, or related field.

Ph.D. preferred. We seek a dynamic colleague who will take an active role in the life of our department. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the potential to coordinate with and build upon our programs in Hebrew and Jewish Studies, by offering courses in literature, theatre, film, and/or modern Israeli culture, in Hebrew and in translation.

With our nationally recognized Theatre program, there will be regular opportunities to teach drama in translation. Knowledge of other Jewish languages and Arabic are a plus. The teaching load is three courses per semester, with dedicated resources to develop new courses and access to robust faculty development opportunities through the Muhlenberg Center for Teaching and Learning. Visiting Assistant Professors are also eligible for multiple College funds that support other forms of scholarship.

The candidate should demonstrate experience with multi-media textbook platforms, interest in language acquisition pedagogy, and a strong commitment to teaching excellence. Muhlenberg College is a student-centered campus that prizes its commitment to teaching in the liberal arts tradition.
