Vocational Rehabilitation - Dickinson, ND - Vision Rehabilitation Specialist

As a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, you will provide vision rehabilitation services to individuals who are 55 or older in their home or community in the areas of technology, communication skills, daily living skills, pre-cane travel skills, and social/emotional adjustment to vision loss. You will also collaborate and consult with vocational rehabilitation counselors to provide services to clients with visual impairments who want to maintain their independence and employment. You will conduct presentations to educate organizations, businesses, and the community about available services through Vocational Rehabilitation.

To succeed in this position, you should be highly organized, able to manage your time and priorities effectively and have demonstrated ability to communicate with all types of people. You will be comfortable working with clients in their homes (may have steps, pets, and/or smoke) as well as conducting presentations to organizations, businesses, and the community.

Approximately 60% of the time consists of daytime travel within western North Dakota with some overnight travel required. You must be willing and able to travel in addition to collaborating with team members in the office. You must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

To be considered for a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, you must have the following qualifications:

  • a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation teaching, orientation/mobility, special education, vocational rehabilitation, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, counseling, or other related degree.

If you meet the qualifications of a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist II, your classification and the salary will be determined at the time of offer. To be considered for a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist II, you must have the following qualification:

  • a bachelor's degree rehabilitation teaching, orientation/mobility, special education, vocational rehabilitation, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, counseling, or related degree AND
  • completion of an approved vision rehabilitation/vision special education coursework AND
  • one year of work experience providing services to individuals with visual impairments. OR
  • A master's degree in one of the above fields with completion of an approved vision rehabilitation/vision special education course work.

NOTE: Individuals selected for any Vision Rehabilitation Specialist I position will be required to meet the Vision Rehabilitation Specialist II qualifications within five years.

Location: ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model.

Depending on the role, employees may work from home, onsite, or both. This position will be located in Office and Remote as there is travel within the designated region required.
